The Nokia N8 introduces a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, HD-quality video recording, film editing software and Dolby surround sound. All in a beautiful, aluminium design.

16Gig on board :)

Powering the Nokia N8 is Symbian ^3, the latest edition of the world's most used smartphone software, which introduces several major advances, including support for gestures such as multi touch, flick scrolling and pinch-zoom. The Nokia N8 also offers multiple, personalizable homescreens which can be loaded with apps and widgets. The new 2D and 3D graphics architecture in the platform takes full advantage of the Nokia N8's hardware acceleration to deliver a faster and more responsive user interface. Symbian^3 also raises the bar in performance by delivering greater memory management allowing more applications to run in parallel for a faster multi-tasking experience.

It will look good next to my N900 ;)

Its still flawed by the Symbian OS.
But ye, I see another N95 type handset flooding the market... although, BB Iphone and Android still beat it imo.

I agree JK8. BB has really got folks hooked (Once you go black...). iPhone... well Apple will always get folks hooked with their great products. I am not too clued up on Android OS but I know that I am not fond of Symbian.

Don't know if it will 'flood' the market. Probably going to retail at a very high price. Just the 12Mp Camera will up the price significantly IMO.

We'll see, I am certainly interested in the phone.

I fail to see why the Symbian system is constantly referred to as flawed? Further to this the N8 will be using Symbian^3 which by all accounts is a vast improvement in terms of responsiveness etc. The appearance may be the same but the feel is different..

As for BBs I really cannot fathom the popularity. It is all based on the ability to email and send messages with ease... apparently. But I can do this with my two year old N82, so what the hell is it all about? I sat with someone who has a BB the other day and they were "showing off" some of it's features. Each time I showed him the same thing on my N82. We then took photos and he was crying over his coffee :)

I then had dinner with another mate and without prompting from myself he referred to the piece of crap when checking a message on his BB. I asked why and he rattled off a list of issues he had and said he missed his Nokia.

BB seems to be getting a foot hold amongst chicks and kids (the mxit generation as I see it). They both seem to like the BB messenger thing. It holds little appeal to me. I can send Facebook messages, Skype, MSN Live and normal SMSs from my Nokia so why the need for yet another message service.

Hi guys, i can confirm the N8 will be launched by vodacom in October. Will give you a exact date tomorrow

Yes, like a black&white 51cm TV can show the same movie as a 50 inch plasma. :)

I have a Nokia N82, and it is positively archaic when compared to the BB 9700's interface, especially the email function.

Once you learn how to use a Blackberry (let's not talk about your incompetent friends) then we can have a discussion. It's about speed and ease of use. The keyboard alone (on the Bold series anyway) is enough of a reason to own a Blackberry. I could care less about cameras personally.
Whatever you can do on your Nokia I can do faster, with constant updates, and for free.

lol sorry for the kinda late reply. Unfortantly i couldnt get a exact release date only that it will be availible in October

Well come on, feel free to explain why. At the end of the day I receive the email on both. What makes the BB special? Does it give you a blowjob before delivering the mail?

So my mate, who just happens to be a CA, is incompetent because he thinks the BB is crap? OK.

This other guy who was raving about his Blackberry already tried to challenge me. He asked me how quick I can change the phone to silent when going into a meeting. I pressed the power button, scrolled to silent and was done. He moved on. He then asked me how quick I can dial a contact. I asked him to choose a name. He chose Paul. I typed P - A - U, from the standby screen and there at the top of the screen was the name of the Paul in question. All I needed to do was press the green button to call him. He moved on.

I'm convinced most of these comments come from people who are actually the incompetent ones and have never been able to get the most out of their old phones, therefore they think Blackberries are great. I know the kind... I got given my N95 (clearly the best phone at the time) as the person said it was way too complicated. Simple people like simple things....

You do know that Blackberry aren't the only phones that have full qwerty keyboards? And that's great (and rather convenient considering the one on the Blackberry is average if anything...) that you don't care about the camera but for me it is one of the things on the phone that adds value.

Look Sir Lance, I'm no BB fanboi and I never said it's special, I actually own a N82 remember. My TV example perfectly illustrates the difference. You can watch Gladiator on both. Is the experience the same? No. The N82's interface is dated, it looks crap, it's awkward to use regularly as an email client.

If it suits your needs, then great. I'm happy for you.

Again no actual justification given. All I ask is some explanation as to why the BB is so great and yet everyone finds it difficult to give me one. It's like with the iPhone it ends up resulting in a comment like "it looks crap" when comparing it to another phone. If it really is all just about email then I totally understand why it fails to impress me.....

Owning a phone and using it to it's full potential are two different things. My N95 discussion earlier illustrated this.

Like I said, I'm happy for you. In fact, based on your sound logic I've decided to sell my plasma and LCD TVs and buy two CRT TVs from Cash Crusaders. I'm also formatting Windows 7 today and putting MS-DOS back on. As a matter of fact, I'm seriously considering downgrading my car to the smallest, cheapest option with a safety belt.

BTW what are you spending your upgrade shopping vouchers on? You're obviously not planning on upgrading the wunder-phone that is the N82.

Well I really have no idea what you are doing in this thread but I am keeping an eye on it as I am considering upgrading to the N8..... As for your apparent swipe at the N82, it is rather interesting that new phones are still compared to the N82. Even in an interview about the N8 the Nokia rep repeatedly made comparisons to the N82 when chatting about the camera.

As for your logic about the LCD/Plasma and CRT I really think it is only you that thinks that is a good analogy. I can list many reasons that an LCD/Plasma is better than a CRT. You on the other hand have repeatedly failed to provide me with reasons why the BB so so great even when I am willing to sit here and listen.

It's slow compared to an iPhone. The iPhone just feels much more responsive. You will get the same things done at the end of the day but it will take 10 seconds as opposed to 30 seconds.

BB was but one reference. One that I experienced recently. Most new phones would suffice as an example of better GUI's and functionality compared to the N82. It was a good phone (especially the camera/xenon flash), but it's dated. Utility is a function of form and functionality.

And different strokes for different folks. For me, the camera is purely a backup after a DSLR and pocket Canon P&S. In comparison, the N82's camera is mediocre. So as I said, any decent backup will do. Email and browsing is more important to me. The N82 email interface is terrible, slow, looks like DOS and awkward to use frequently - especially when you travel a lot.

As to being in this thread, apart from being a forum member, I'm interesting in upgrading from my N82. And I'm irresistibly attracted to trolls. :)

As to the N8, certainly something I would consider if I don't have to wait too long, and the real life reviews and feedback are good. Having said that, I wouldn't mind a break from Nokia and try something else...

So back to my previous question: are you upgrading your uber-alles N82 or are you taking shopping vouchers?

Lanelot CAs don't study technology, I know 20 CA's and most of them are idiots when it comes to technology (I studied arts for comparison - jobs make little difference to people's tech abilities unless they studied tech).
You've proven my point your friend doesn't know how to use his Blackberry. Silencing is pressing and holding Q from the home screen (one action rather than two on your phone). Calling is as easy as pressing in the green button and start typing, most used contacts come up first, so after just pressing T I would have gotten the same name and pressed the green button to dial - 3 actions instead of 5. I've used four different phones with keyboards for extended periods and there is no contest to the comfort and ease of the Bold keyboard.
As to the Blackberry screen it's quite good, twice the resolution of most top of the line nokias, even the N8 resolution os only slightly higher than any top Blackberry. Rim have been using faster processors than Nokia for two years now (N8 is only just catching up). And I don't know about 'everyone comparing phones to the N82 that's just Nokia, to be realistic everyone compares phones to iphones.

Perhaps everyone who disagrees with you isn't as stupid as you assume, I've used many OS's and many phones, I've delved into every feature and read all the tips and tricks for all them hoping I could find quicker ways of doing things, so believe when I say for speed of access no one comes close to Blackberry. Not that blackberry isn't flawed in many categories but there are many things it does do better than any other phone (and I'm not talking about e-mail or messenger here) I'm talking about interface, dated though it may look and OS5 doesn't look to bad (I assume you played with OS4). I would add that for advanced actions there is a learning curve - there are so many shortcuts and extra features that it takes months to get them all.

So back to my previous question: are you upgrading your uber-alles N82 or are you taking shopping vouchers?

Do you actually read answers? Back to my previous answer. I will be upgrading to the N8.

Oh, so you need to be a technology expert to understand the value of a BB? Funny that as most comments seem to be insinuating that it is really simple to use and requires little knowledge of how to get the most out of a phone.

And your reasons for why you think the BB is so great again leads me to the one conclusion.... simple things for simple people it seems. Why the hell would I choose a phone based on the fact that I only need to press 3 buttons instead of 4? (And in saying that I am giving you more credit than you deserve. If Paul, in my example, was the person I phoned most then his name would immediately appear after pressing P. Therefore two buttons needed - P and green button to call. I win  ...on my two year old phone!) Not once has a really good reason been given!

Here I am looking for you guys to argue the case for BBs and yet I get nothing... seems my decision not to consider BB may be a good one after all. I'll leave it to the kids and the chicks who want to tell their mates they are straightening their hair, and the like, on BB messenger.
