When does the Nokia N8 arrive?

I thought phone discussions only got heated when the iPhone was involved :O
Both your Nokias and Blackberrys suck, Android FTW! :p

But seriously, the N8 looks like the first good Nokia phone in a while. I had a Nokia 5800 and got sick of it, it put me off Nokia with that cheap touch interface, general slowness and crappy software. So I went Android and I'm very happy I did.
The N8 should be much better than Nokia's previous touchscreen attempts though. Hopefully it gets more attention from developers too.

Which phone is best for you is a personal thing, I think you need to compare them for yourself because different things are important to different people in a phone. Watching videos of them in action, if you can't try them for yourself, is a good idea too.

What does it do that your N82 can't fanboi?

My oh my.... you are in this thread but you know that little about the N8? I am not going to be the one to educate you so feel free to search the net for your answer. In summary it does EVERYTHING the N82 did but better, and adds a few new things - exactly what I would want from an upgrade. I have no desire to take a step backwards to a phone that has no turn by turn voice navigation for the GPS, no accelerometer, a downgraded camera, very little onboard memory (I am talking specifically about the "top of the range" 9700 here) etc etc etc

Then to add to this I have two colleagues who have BBs in my office. They repeatedly have to step out of the office to hold conversations as they battle to get a decent signal inside.... at the same time I happily chat away on my N82. And yes we are all on the same network! Of course this must boil down to me being a "fanboi" and them being "incompetent"

Lancelot you and roux are two of a kind. Btw the 9700 has turn by turn navigation for free and brilliant reception (on MTN, I'm guessing your co-workers are on vodacom). I don't care if you get a Blackberry or not, just accept that maybe you don't know ANYTHING about them and let it go. You and roux get irritating when you pretend you know what you're talking about (and you obviously don't).

My favourite comment of yours in when you claim the phone must be stupid because it's easy to do something. God forbid features and options should be easy to access, I guess that's what Nokia think - if it takes twice as long to use then it must be better.

Interesting regarding the turn by turn navigation. Best some of SAs tech websites jack up their information then as both techcentral and simondingle state it doesn't. So can you get that navigation if you don't go for the BB data add on?

As for your insinuations that I do not know what I am talking about how about you cover the other issues I raised? Was I wrong there too? Did I just make those up? I must have considering I know nothing about the phone.

And are you admitting then that BB is useless on the Vodacom network then? Have you tested your phone in my office seeing as though you are able to comment on it's brilliant reception? You think I am making up the fact that they need to step outside? Is it just a strange coincidence that the two people with BBs have the same issue whereas I don't? Of course you will just write this off and claim your phone is the best in the world.... don't dare let anyone claim otherwise.

Where was this comment exactly?

You BB fans need to get your arguments straight. Half of you argue that the BB is simple to use and it is this simplicity that makes it attractive. Then on the other hand you make insinuations that my friends must be incompetent as they find flaws with the BB. Really can you guys make up your minds already. Surely if something is so easily accessible and simplified any "incompetent" person should be able to use it?

I can only deal with so much stupidity in one day. Please quote where I said my phone was the best in the world? It has many issues but every comment you've made shows you don't know what blackberry is actually about or how it functions. On MTN I've never had a reception issue and yes I work in an office. I've had the phone for two years and not once had a dropped call or reception issues (my friends on vodacom cannot say the same). Please list any one concern I haven't addressed. And yes I did agree bb cameras are useless (although the Torch is quite decent). Like the N8 it's expected in the next few months (but it was only announced last week) and I haven't once mentioned my free internet which is the ultimate winner for everyone on Blackberry. It's stupid having a top of the line phone if you have to watch your data account.

I didn't say it was 'easy' I said it was quick, there is a difference. It's not easy to learn all the shortcuts but once you do it's quick to use than any other phone.

Have you learnt to use the quote function? It makes it a lot easier for people to know what the hell you are talking about. Or are you posting this from your inferior BB which means you can't quote?

So how much onboard memory do you have? One of the issues raised. Dude, I'm sure there is a stack of stuff the BB falls short at. Bottom line seems to be that it's only strong point is it's messaging capabilities....

For the love of god, please try to objectively digest and evaluate posts. Two pages and in the end you counter with the exact ****ing point I made initially. Thanks for the entertainment.

To clear up any confusion, I initially referred to a phone I actually held in my hands and played with - and came to the conclusion that it's better than my current phone - especially in terms of email and general GUI - important to me. Which phone is largely irrelevant, it could have been a Nokia N83 for that matter. You, on the other hand, get all Lancelotish about a piece of spec paper? In reference to a previous comment from you, the way you are trumpeting the FUTURE N8 you should really be disappointed if it doesn't in FUTURE give you blowjobs when receiving mails. Nice going fanboi. ;)

Ah, I almost forgot this gem -

At the end of the day I receive the email on both.

But your reasoning for upgrading from the N82 is because the N8 does it better? Now it is a valid reason for upgrading? Maybe I'm missing the point - it's because you said it does EVERYTHING better. And to think the N82 was the Wunder Phone. The N8 must be the Wunder Phone II then. Or maybe you meant it's largely about the NEW things it can do, which you didn't feel like listing. Maybe it gives blowjobs after all. Fanboi. :)

Lancelot. SiriS is on par, its a good analogy !

hell a phone 3-4 years older then your N82 can do these things.

Ive had an N73, N79, N82, BB 8520, Omnia, HTC touch 2 etc etc etc to list a few.

but ive had the entry level BB and have used the N82, i still have my BB, sold the N82. Its hard to explain why, youwould have to use one. But if your into e-mail, FB, messenging etc, blackberry is miles ahead.

I develop for cellphones every day of my life.

I would choose a Nokia E72 above any BlackBerry every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

A quick update for everyone - we have just opened the Online Pre-Orders for the Nokia N8 with the guys from OnlineStuff - you can find the story here http://bit.ly/bile26 The wait is almost over!
