Any ideas or info on this??

I'm really thinking about changing my ISP.

I'm using Telkom and Afrihost. Just a pity Afrihost doesn't have a All-in-one Uncapped ADSL package like MWEB.

And they only have the 4mbit available atm.

phoned the call centre yesterday and asked the consultant but she had no idea when it is being released... maybe someone here can post some inside info ?

Hey, Telkom has been shellshocked by MWEB.

They have just seen their cash cow shot right in front of their eyes.

It will be a while before they get over it, by then everyone will already have moved over to the uncapped offerings available, especially if the price war carries on as it is right now.

They will become an infrastructure provider (ADSL) and when LLU takes place disappear into oblivion and good riddance if so.

They have for too long been the handbrake to change and development in this country with their capping system.

I dont know why people are still bothering to wait for their response, just up and leave them, the uncapped offerings are month to month.

Only people who were ensnared with 24 month Contracts will have to grin and take it up their .....

Just move man, just move to another ISP, R70 per GB for Topups are historical now.

Same should apply to others who still believes in the _unsustainable_ ....

LOL, historical, still cant believe I can say that now.

I'm a bit confused.
I have a 5gb 4mb account with Telkom.

What happens if I change service providers, and then Telkom suddenly upgrades its 4mb users to 8mbs? Will I be able to benefit even if I'm not with Telkom anymore?

Nope cause the uncapped accounts are limited to the speed you purchase. It should be interesting to see how packages will change with Telkom.
Do3 users are on 4mbit/5gig accounts, if the speed upgrades take to place to as high as 12mbit with the introduction of uncapped packages aswell how will it effect the packages.
I think telkom will offer "uncapped" aka 200/300gig soft capped accounts.

Busy holding on the line to cancel my Do3 - can't wait for them to offer it.

38 mins and waiting.......at this rate I'll never go back to them!!

Any way with Telkom the lines are in such a bad state I do not think we will ever see 8mbs.

I have a 4mbs line for home/office and end up using my 3g as its give better speed than telkom.... Funy

Bad state??? Stay on your 3G "mobile guru" cause you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

Iv never had any issues at all speed wise with my 4mbit DSL except for when lightning took down my line once.
Personally i think Telkom will bring an expensive uncapped product but if its over SAT 3 with less shaping... im there

I don't want uncapped. But 10GB (+100GB Local, dynamic traffic splitting) on a 1Mb+ line for R350 (TCO) would be nice from Telkom

Their ISP (TI) is not a cash cow but a burden they are forced to bear. The only advantage they can extract is if they bundle it with their other products.

Not only are Telkom losing their Internet clients, but with uncapped available, VOIP is going to become more popular and they will lose their POTS clients as well, then when LLU takes place they will lose their ADSL revenue too. Well I guess they can always exixst on their income from GSM. Oops, my bad, they seem to have lost that one as well.

I used to have aTelkom share, but after I ran out of toilet paper I put it to good use and now that's gone too.

You will get the upgrade regardless of whom you maybe with.

If telkom upgrade their lines it could be a 768kb, a 1.6mb and 8 mb line. Notice that no ISPs offer products on these line speeds. telkom will then say that these line speeds are in the testing phase therefor only available to telkom isp customers and will be only be available for other ISPs once testing is complete. But thruthfully is will never happen.

If Telkom cared about its customers, surely they would have at the very least released an urgent press release already? Is there any good reason to wait for Telkom?

They did release a press statement saying they would introduce uncapped.
March 31st is the end of the financial year, so hopefully introduction of new products should be announced within the next month or so

Thanks, I'd like to read that. Anyone have a link to the press release? Didn't show up in a search.

Deja-vu, I even have the 5th post in the discussion thread :D Thanks :)
