When is Vodacom launching BIS?

Anyone else have downtime since about 11 last night? I can't register on the host routing table and my gprs/edge is small. In the Houghton area, Johannesburg.

Yes....I had the same thing.....but it restored itself about 2 in the morning. Reboot the phone by either "alt + shift + enter" or battery pull. Mine is back on BIS again with no problems this morning.

Ya, did a battery pull after I couldn't get a wifi in my room (the wireless cards in these things are pathetic, I get 4 bars connecting on my Macbook Pro but half a bar or less on the BB) and it seems to have sorted itself out.

I think BIS Is getting better :)

I've probably had around 80-90% today. I'm really looking forward to the day when I can also experience BBM and a 95+ uptime ...

My friend got data charges in his vc contract and when he inquired they shiwed him that there is indeed limites to this unlimited offer. Their must be some sort of misunderstanding with my friends contract or something else vodacom is really misleading the people.

And yes. Vodacom has been dropping its standards regarding bis lately.

My BIS has been perfect except for 2 occasions in the year or so i been using my BB. As for charges, yes there are, as advertised, unlimited on device browsing. There are 3rd party apps that make use of the 'internet' apn and this goes via the normal data network and NOT the BIS network, social networking apps on AppWorld work with BIS, a few of the security and backup utilities from my experience do not. Older versions of mxit still use internet, only after 5.9.X did mxit enable support for BIS.

Connecting your phone to a computer and using it as a tethered modem will incur charges, using 3rd party web browsers like opera may incur charges, although from what i have heard the newer versions support BIS as well, vodacom was smart when they advertised unlimited browsing, email, facebook and twitter, according to that advert using the bb browser, bbfacebook and bbtwitter is free, anything else can be charged for.

Just keep an eye on what you install and check your bill, but most applications available via appworld will use BIS, if you want to ensure that you do not receive unexpected charges simply call vodacoms date desk on 155 and ask them to remove the internet apn from your line, then come hell or high water any app that does not support BIS will not work and that way you will never get these unexpected charges.

Got a couple friends here who are also having huge issues with BIS lately. They're pretty upset as well :)

USELESS!!!

Went in to vodacare yesterday.. wasnt much help.. the person on the datadesk said i have a problem with my software.. and it needs to be changed.

i have recently done the OS6 update on my 9300, and know its not the software as a colleague on MTN has the same "vodafone" software running on his on the MTN network.

the only solution they have is to take my phone in for an assessment and replace the unit if they find a fault.

have this problem mainly on 3g. i have a 3g signal.. but no BIS.. if i force my phone onto 2g. i can use bbm etc.. but everything is ridiculously slow.

the lady at the repairs desk suggested i leave my phone on 2g because vodacom has an edge network that is faster than 3g.. took a look at her phone.. she was on MTN. even their own staff dont trust the network.

i have logged calls.. have been into the care centre.. have tried the call centre but got redirected to the data centre who redirected me to network faults.

heck iv even tweeted @vodacom... but no luck!! have you guys had any luck? i spend more time offline than on with 3g.

Well it depends on where you live, 3G can be fairly spotty in some areas, like me, i have 3G at home at works its almost non existent, i only get 3G on 1 side of the building and on the top floor of the clubhouse. EDGE is the better choice for more reliable coverage and better battery life.

3G is really not needed for emails and BBM unless there are large attachments or file transfers involved

Also i would suggest not leaving your phone there as it would be a waste of time, as a MyBB article of yesterday or the day before confirmed, anyone using an OS6 release, even an official RIM release will void their warranty. Vodacom and MTN will only be approving OS6 as of next month and any non Voda/MTN approved release will void any existing warranty.

Lets say something does go wrong with your phone and you need to send it in....anyway of rolling back the os to the official Vodacom version Cranial?

Uninstall OS6 for your device on your computer and install the lastest Vodacom one. Then run loader.exe from \program file\common files\research in motion\apploader after trashing the vendor.xml file as per usual.

I'd run a manual backup from DM though, in case you send it in and it comes back data wiped.
