Heard via a few friends that Vodacom should be launching a Blackerry Internet Service shortly?

Is it true?

Unless he is being sarcastic with all the downtime! lol
I didn't get the sarcasm :o - apart from that one morning recently when BIS was down countrywide I've had reliable service.

Ja no, your friends have been living under rocks. ;) All of the service providers in SA have BIS - except Virgin, but I'm not even sure that they still exist.

It was sarcastic ;)

Again last night (this morning) it was down. Albeit 2-3 minutes - but I constantly get this 2-3 minutes ... Typically in the middle of a chat. I don't think a day has gone past in the last few weeks without at least one SMS having to be sent to a person with BBM

Would be great for a 24 hour BIS service like MTN has - and not a 21 hour service like we're stuck with

Dear Dolby,

Lovely having you part of the "my broadband" experience and welcome to the forum BlackBerry.

I have to admit you have arrived at the right location and planet it's called "Earth" we are allocated in South Africa and yes we do have a network called Vodacom and they do indeed have "BIS - BlackBerry Internet Service" enabled for probably over 5years+ now or less..

Seriously a warm welcome to our planet :) Pls enjoy your BlackBerry Experience you will indeed love your BlackBerry more than your alien wife..

Please check out the forum on a regular basis for updates and fantastic new threads about BlackBerry.

If you stuck and need a dummies book for BlackBerry and also get yourself the torch 9800 for me and for yourself.

Then I can test to actually see if the BlackBerry Internet Service actually works on Vodacom Network but once again welcome to SOUTH AFRICA and to EARTH :)

Now please enjoy your BlackBerry experience and remember to buy your sim card at your local participating VODACOM outlet - if you need dirctions for this I am willing to give you hand and come to your place and teach you how to use your new Blackberry torch......

Welcome Dolby to planet EARTH bow down to your king now :p

It was sarcastic ;)

And ironically, I'm back to SMSing this morning due to (you guessed it!) BIS not working again ... ;) That's what made me (sarcastically) wonder if they actually offered the service ...

Oh - seems data is down in Randpark Ridge / Jackal Creek again too

Blackberry BIS seems to have been giving me problems since yesterday morning. My phone shows "GSM". When I come off a phone call, it picks up BIS again "EDGE" but then 2 seconds later falls off again to "GSM" . Logged a call with 155. :-(

Vodacom Bis seems to drop more than hookers during a recession it sad really to think that Vodacom is what Cell C used to be a bad broken network

I've not had any problems with BIS at all except that morning of the 1st of this month when it was down nationwide for a few hours.

I was very happy with VC BIS until about a month ago. As I'm typing this I've just lost BIS, I've got 'gprs' Goes to GSM every now and then. VC's BIS now stands for BULL***** INTERNET SERVICE! I'm still waiting for BIS so I can post this. Ah finally, after about 5mins

Yup - twas a month ago for me as well.

Even when it says connectedd, there's no throughput ... I'm not lying to you when I say I'm down at least 2-3 hours per day. Not all in one block ... but a 10 minute here, a 5 minutes there and a 20 minute later.

Last night - it was dead. This morning I woke at 2am - it was dead. Tried at 7am - it was dead. Got to work and tried again - it was dead. Though it seems to have popped up again ...

Just phoned VC and gave them a piece of my mind. The A-hole I spoke to tells me my phone must be having a software problem. How the hell did it work perfectly for 5months before the last month then. He says do the host routing table thing, if I have to do that everytime I lose BIS my phone will be more off than on.

I think whoever has VC should phone in and complain. Let's flood them with calls until they get their act together.

My friend got data charges in his vc contract and when he inquired they shiwed him that there is indeed limites to this unlimited offer. Their must be some sort of misunderstanding with my friends contract or something else vodacom is really misleading the people.

And yes. Vodacom has been dropping its standards regarding bis lately.

The BIS service is truly uncapped, but what they don't tell you (or at least they didn't mention it to me), is that you will incur data costs on anything that uses streaming media or the internet APN itself.

Yes i know. I have a bold on mtn. My friend has a bold on vodacom and he still gets charged for data even though he doesnt stream data. He just uses his phone for fb and email.

I've never been charged for data that I shouldn't have been charged for. There I've got no complaints. And I do a lot more than fb and email.

Please tell him not to use the "Vodafone Browser" and the "Facebook App". If you use the Vodafone Browser and you leave the Vodafone portal to other sites then you get charged for data as this does not use the blackberry.net APN.
