When to be forthcoming about criminal record

I'm currently employed as a programmer in a very small company, where I'm the sole programmer. Doing development for the owners other business. So currently I do everything in the development cycle, from the design, coding to the implementation.

I love solving problems, and that is one of the biggest reasons I went this route when I studied. Just that I'm not having any prospect of moving up where I am. I'm also not learning how to do things the "correct" way as I'm doing it all myself. So I have a desire to learn from others by working in a proper development environment.

Would love to be able to do more SQL, doing it everyday building the system I'm doing currently, but again I have no idea if this is being done proper.
Then that is how you start your CV, focus on what you can do for the company and what you love, and that your passion for tech drove you to do a degree. Then in the second section, list the technologies and areas of business that you are familiar with and that you have had experience with. In the third, list the technologies that you are interested in, and have played around with. Then lastly, do the "work experience" with your employment history and academic achievements.
Your experience being incarcerated, and the fact that you survived it, and actually used the time to improve yourself is actually a strength, it proves that you have human skills and that you can deal with extremely difficult people. Sell it when the time is appropriate.

I would say you mention it in the interview, not on the CV.
Or just before the background check, whichever comes first.

The last time I applied for a job, the criminal background check was at the interview with the recruiters, before the interview with the employer.

The majority of businesses from medium size and and up will do a background check, which is going to be a problem for you.

Lol I love how fitting your username is.

BIG respect for turning your life around.

I don't want to offer advice on something I know nothing about. Best of luck with everything! I'm currently pursuing my BSC CS

Add a photo to your CV, it "humanises" you.
Some humans in this country don't like how other humans look.

If the person is attractive, maybe but I don't think people should have a picture on their CV unless they are applying for a modelling job.

A photo reminds the people that are sifting through 800 applications that you are a human being.. is my point.

The only reason I did not mention my crime as I'm not proud of what I did. But it is public record but still not something to be proud.

Well all you have to do is just omit one line from your CV

Yes it would be easy to omit. But then I go for the internview and I get asked about my big employment history gap. I do not want to lie about it. Even if I did lie, no I pass and they do a background check and my record comes up. I wasted their and my time.

Some organizations do that research themselves. Years ago I applied for a position at a wealth management company. Everything was going well, at the end of the second interview, they picked up an arrest record (for assault, and I have been found innocent in court), and wanted more official details about that. At the time I did not know how to get what they wanted, so I just left it.

Edit: Arrest record, not criminal record. I don't actually even know at the time there was such a thing, and if it still exists.

Reason why I asked was purely for the hypocritical angle. In the threads where a crime is committed, most showing you support here would wish death upon criminals. Me included. So it would be interesting how your support would change if people knew why you were incarcerated. Frankly I just like pointing out hypocrisies.

Well, you could always say you worked on a farm in the states or as a carnival operator? Or something like that. Depends how many years I suppose, but it might get you one interview further.

If you don't come right with a job then I would recommend looking at Fiverr and Upwork where you can work for yourself :) You can make some decent money on there a friend of mine made 6 000 $ for a simple eCommerce website. Another option is to join a start-up and help them out until they get investors and then they will provide you with a contract of employment

OK. Worst is you were a Paediophile. And you're not. Cause you would not have lasted 20 years in jail. Or maybe in jail for rape? Who knows. You did the time. And are honest.

It's kak hard to think. One thing I do know though is we all make mistakes. Booze and being absolutely smashed has its consequences. I've been lucky.

Not for rape and not a pedophile. Just for the record in SA, it is a myth that pedos or rapist have a hard time in jail. They are just left alone, but in the maximum I was, I would say more then half of the guys had a rape conviction as well.
