When will iBurst drop prices...?

I have the Giga account for my Joburg house. I think it is very good value for money, when compared to competitors' products, especially given the 64k throttle when capped.

One gig for R200 sounds expensive, but not for the first gig which is surely designed to cover all of the fixed infrastrucure costs associated with the package. On Telkom you have to pay for the line rental and ADSL rental before you get a single byte of bandwidth.

My only beef with it is the extremely high cost of top-up bandwidth. I would be quite happy to add a gig or two when needed rather than remain throttled, but at these prices it is pure insanity, so I stick to the 64k.

For top-ups, we should only be paying for an amount that is aligned with iBurst's marginal bandwidth cost, not paying for the infrastructure all over again. R60-R80 per gig would keep you nicely ahead of your competition, Jannie. And you can still make the first top up more expensive for the smaller packages to help cover the costs.

As things stand, though, Neotel is looking more and more attractive.

That is the number one gripe with this thread. We are not asking for free bandwidth.

If 1GB cost R99 to top up, we would shut up for awhile and be happy.

But at R199 for 1GB, people would rather be throttled and download 20GB per month while throttled.

iBurst has so much potential to be a better service provider, if only they listen to their customers.

Rome wasn't built in a day, so lets give Jannie his 100 days and I am sure he'll still impress us and surprise us.

I do believe we need larger caps.

Speed is not really a problem.

Latency counts though.

I could live quite comfortably at 500-600 kbps.

You wanted my thoughts.

There they are.

These were the words from Shaun himself, posted a month ago.

So hopefully in the "100 days" we will see the larger caps come to pass...;)

lol u think all of this will actually make them budge... ive wasted my time on this thread nearly 2 months.. and nothin g has happened..

What do you mean. Jannie has already explained he needs a 100 days. He said he would first focus on the "software", and then he would worry about pricing.

The "software" side is already done or close to done, so he may still keep is word on the rest.

Sure, the R250 a gig bandwidth did seem like a future pricing indicator, but Jannie has already explained this is not the case. So just give it time.

I also got tired of waiting after making a number of product suggestions as well as e-mailing some items to [email protected].

I downgraded my Account from 5 Gb to 1Gb effective 1 September.
My cancellation notice was sent and processed today.
So iBurst is down R600 per month from me from the end of September and that money is going to another ISP now.
Maybe a drop in the ocean... maybe not..

Yet iBurst managed to find time to concentrate sufficient effort to announce a PrePaid offering at R250 per Gig. (It drew a very negative response in the forums and that is possibly why the pricing is now being reconsidered.)
The Prepaid offering is not something which can simply be activated at the click of a mouse.
Product obviously invested time in thinking up the specifics.
Software to manage the product would have needed to be developed and integrated with their current systems.
All of that takes time...

Now how long does it will take to for example load 3 new 'top-up' bundle products into a database? (This should probably not necessitate new software as it would integrate with their current model and systems.)
Could this not have been done already?

Unless iburst does something, i suspect the gains adsl should experience because of seacom will see many iburst customers following your example. Do they have the tech to follow adsl on the path its soon going to go on? I'm not so sure. What happens when vodacom launches lte?

All the isp's are going to artificially delay the role-out of new packages so they can enjoy the increased profits brought on by seacom. It makes perfect sense, and i can't blame them. But yeah, if they take to long i suggest people leave.

PLEASE be realistic! Jannie is a superhero ;) and even if the entire iBurst office was full of Jannies they wouldn't manage to roll out new products in a couple of weeks. Product development is a process that can take months or even years.

When the idea is first thought of (or suggested) it needs to be spec'ed out comprehensively. Then business rules need to be written and rewritten to make sure that the product works as expected and there are no loopholes. Then the networking team and the software team need to implement new systems and buy new equipment to allow the product to work correctly. Not to mention all callcentre documentation and marketing material that has to be produced and checked multiple times....

Chill dude :D

See my post above...
How they managed to get the PrePaid product announced.
All of the issues you mention would surely apply to that as well? ;)

As I always say, rather ask than make assumptions.

Read my previous posts and you'll see I said while the new systems are bedded down, we won't load new products onto them.

Pre-paid is a completely different system and is not part of the architecture that carries the 'normal' post-paid products.

Hi Jannie

Just a question - do you view new "products" as an allocation of bandwidth for a price?

Hi there jannie.. any news of maybey improved throttle speeds or 500kbps uncapped packages?

Hi guys

Please could you use the [email protected] mailbox for your ideas.

These will get seen by the Product team and management.

Thanks

mmm i dont think they willl many people on this forum have mailed them the ideas.. and we never hear of it again.. so im not gonna waste my bandwidth that i pay so much more for than other isp's on emailing u. as a matter of fact you should be emailing us.. giving us the problems ( that we all know ) and how u plan on fixing it ( none of us knows) esp with the pricing .. { by the way shaun.. this isnt a stab at u .. its at i burst in general.. your actually the only reason i still post here so dont feel offended }

With reductions in BW pricing - even at such a modest level - it is becoming more and more unaffordable to stick with iBurst. iBurst is becoming the most expensive provider in SA.
