I am wondering how long it will still take for Telkom to finally give up their monopoly to increase market competition.

It is heartbreaking to see that in my home country I could have 102mbit uncapped internet for 74€. In SA you can't even use Usenext without going bankrupt.

So please Telkom, finally give up your autarchy and fight for your market share like a man :p

It's not up to Telkom.

Blame ICASA.

Neotel are meant to be the fixed line competition; where are they?

okay, ICASA then.

Ya, Neotel, their service is quite pathetic, I am not going to sign a 2 year contract for internet.

They don't do on site speed test with the 5gig wireless router package thing either. And after I read many complaints about the speed I am not going to take this risk. Not even their coverage map is up to date.

No company that has a monopoly ever gives it up - it needs to be taken away from them ;)

Hi. I already have a contract with TelkomInternet that lapses in November 2009. I am on the basic Fast DSL 384kbps. As a pensioner, and with electricity now costing 31.3% more, I am looking around for more economical and faster access to the internet. TelkomInternet has been pretty reasonable for the past 2 years. However, please look at the following:

Plan 4 @ R462 per month

* All the benefits of Plan 3
* DSL access up to 384kbps

Plan 5 @ R684 per month

* All the benefits of Plan 3
* DSL access up to 4096kbps

There appears to be a big discrepancy between 384kbps and 4096kbps for a difference of some R222.00. If I could afford the difference, believe me I would pay it. However, not at this stage due to the unknown additional cost of electricity. Perhaps when the contract expires in November, I may decide to go all the way up to Plan 5 especially for the 4096kbps line speed. If you trace my internet usage, you will see that I use at least 10GB bandwidth per month (maximum) depending on how much software I have to download during the month. Sometimes I use more than 1Gb in ONE day!!

Consequently, I am asking that TelkomInternet improve the low-end speeds for the same price as Plan 4, for example increase the line speed to 2048kbps for the same amount of money as for 384kbps we pay now. This will go a long way at levelling the playing field between the two options in Plan 4 and Plan 5.

I hope TelkomInternet will agree.

For those with router problems, the Billion 800GVT from Telkom is excellent, very easy to install and a breeze to maintain.
