We are about to move from the copper age to the light age. The difference between copper cable and fibre optic is startling. Electrons flowing down a piece of wire vs particle-wave travelling at speed of light. Unfortunately, ISPS will do everything to keep the old regime in place so they can profit, and since the economic models based upon copper will collapse, we need an alternative vision of what instantaneous communication is going to be like, and how a post-scarcity economy is likely to react. Freed from the Curse of Tantalus, we will develop past our backward state and be able to engage in new technologies, new social development and new insight which will benefit everybody. But we can only do this if we are willing to sacrifice the copper economy. Keeping copper and the old arrangements will lead to new disaparities as some benefit to the exclusion of others. We therefore need to provide access to everybody and an upgrade path for ISPS, so they do not become stumbling blocks.
