When will the Torch 9810 be available in SA?

MTN wanted to be the first to market this phone in SA, - BEFORE Vodacom. Vodacom took MTN by surprise when they launched the 9900, and MTN wanted to "beat" them by getting the 9810 out first.

The 9810 was available in Durbs from last week, and here in JHB, it seems like some stores were holding back until 01 November, even though they had them in stock (maybe they were expecting it to be offered at a higher price? Clearwater Mall). Just a handful of stores in JHB were offering it at the same price as the 9800 (R329 Anytime 200 or Topup 200). Featherbrooke, Trade Route Mall and Cresta were the only ones.
And some stores were totally clueless of the new Torch.
 
There are some other possibilities that I would consider but for me its all about the BIS. I want to use it as business phone as I have a online shop and would use the browser and email alot for orders and maintaining website when Im away from PC.

I was considering the Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab P1000 also but I would not want to be stuck with a huge bill at the end of the month for data usage :(

The Tab would be perfect for browser purposes and it can double as phone also although its not that great at it but the size is nice. Just wondering how I would carry it around...mmmm...manbag? oh hell no.

On the other hand the SGS2 has awesome features also and the specs of the phone is good also plus it runs Android. But again, it doesnt have BIS which means separate data bundles to be added :(

Anyone got some comments regarding these 3 phones? well 2 phones and 1 tablet/phone.

I have the Galaxy Tab, and it is wonderful. A large screen makes such a difference, and it is very responsive. The phone feature is good, - you can use it without the headset, but a bluetooth handsfree makes a huge difference. Brilliant for web use, calls, video and pic viewing, and of course games, - after playing Angry Birds on a tab, you cannot really go back to playing it on a phone.
I have a 500MB data bundle but use it via wifi on my ADSL. I have never finished the 500MB monthly data.
Android is brilliant, and I would also recommend the SGS2, - played with it and it is very responsive, great screen, and well, - it's Android, so the web browing, e-mail, and everything else will just work well.
I'm new to Blackberry, and the only thing that is bugging me right now is the lock/unlock rocker switch at the top of the phone. The mute rocker provides nice feedback, but the lock switch doesn't, and it seems like the slightest of touches anywhere on the top right of the phone will lock/unlock the phone. Not sure if this is peculiar to the unit I have or whether it's just a general issue. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Actually considering changing it for another unit (still within 7 days).

If you want a tab/phone in one, then I suggest you look at the Samsung Galaxy Note, it's a 5" tab/phone... So it will serve both purposes... Pricing is around R379, cellc is going to offer it with 500mb & vodacom with 100mb for the same price. Check the News page for the lauch details.. (cell data bundle is for 24 months where's voda is only 12months)

The Galaxy Note looks awesome. Hope they bring it out with better voice packages also. Businesschat is crap. CellC's 500Mb deal would have been great if they included some minutes also.

Seems that Samsung is giving away a 43" plasma tv also to the first few people that get the Note. Nice incentive but I don't fall for such sales gimmicks. Probably some bottom of the range discontinued tv anyways :D


Still think budget wise the BB 9810 will probably be the better choice for now. Don't want to be spending almost R1000+ pm for decent voice package with enough data.
 
Someone at the Vodacom Shop told me they're expecting stock between 22 and 25 Nov (and then tried to sell be a 9780, LOL).
 
I ordered my 9810 Last Thursday from my local MTN branch, but as usual they delayed and I have to wait for stock..
 
My brother in law got his 9810 from MTN on the 5th of November. I compared it with my 9800. Some speed tests etc...

WOW!!!!! What a improvement. I will consider upgrading to the 9810 early January 2012. Depending on when the new 9790 will become available.

In order of preference I will look at the following:

1. 9790
2. 9810
3. 9900

The reason why I choose the 9810 over the 9900 is because the battery life is definately better. Although you have to charge both daily.
 
I'm quite happy with my 9810's battery. Charge it on average once every two days.
