Lol. So, like one in a million for contracting a salmonella infection from shaking someones hand? Your average salmonella infection manifests as a minor case of diarrhea. Seriously, cutting yourself off from normal human interaction such as shaking hands out of fear of contracting an infection is a little mental.

Listen, I am not going to argue on the transmission statistics of pathogenic bacteria fact remains it happens every day its way more probable than one in a million.

Something that just happened a few minutes ago in our bathrooms. I went into the tall and could hear someone else blowing their guts in the other stall cool. He comes out and leave the bathroom. No washing. I leave wash my hands and go out hes standing talking to someone he puts out his hands to shake mine? Now i know he just didnt wash and he blew his guts? So what i must be all social and shake his possibly **** contaminated hand? Rofl. Yeah thanks i'll eat all the crazy pills. And that could just be e.coli better to be safe than sorry.

But yeah its a common practice to shake hands but I won't do it just because society deems it. Only people I know like Acid said.

Wow. What a convenient time for this to occur. Wish all my anecdotes that back up my BS happen as conveniently as that.

Or maybe I should just, y'know... Make it up.

Don't you have a story about something that happened a few moments ago to strengthen your statement in this post?

Shaking hands is the foulest thing ever. Gf is a microbiologist she took a swab of a random persons hand the amount of bacteria. So i generally avoid all forms of hand shake with any person.

Do you often try and see if you can fit your fist in your mouth? :p

... that's of course if you are white ... does it always involve that 3x hand grasping gesture?

I always feel awkward if they go "all the way" and I seemingly then "abort" the courtesy half-way through the greeting, because I'm use to only clutching the other person's hand once.

Different cultures do things differently.

In some cultures it's rude to shake quickly, in some cultures it's rude to do it half-heartedly.

In some cultures, when you're in a meeting you stfu. In some if you stfu they think you're stupid.

I know both white and black people who do this. Feels awkward when you stop shaking and they are trying to rape your hand.

Get some hand eye coordination going, remember different cultures have different greetings, and you will be fine :)

No but you subconsciously touch your face a good couple times a day so very easier to transfer. Touch your cell phone, move it to your mouth, leave it on your cell phone etc.. You get the idea. Annnyways i guess being aware of ones own health and protecting it is a very bad thing from the general ideas people have. Oh well.

I understand. I do the oddest things in public bathrooms to avoid touching things

Do you let other people touch your keyboard? Do you always wear gloves? I think you might be pulling this whole thing slightly out of proportion...

Being aware is one thing, but it sounds like you're bordering on some form of OCD (no disrespect meant).

Like i've said im okay with germs i already have. And no i don't let people use my computer or keyboard or mouse etc. I did'nt pull anything out of proportion i simply stated the reasons i do not shake peoples hands. Then people wanted justification as to why i don't.

@YingYang - Call it what you will.
