where can i buy LED's?

If you're in the East Rand try GT Electronics, above Furniture City next to Dion's next to East Rand mall. Haha! That's as clear as...****.
 
Yeah, you could try Communica in Samrand (at the Samrand offramp). They are not as expensive there as at most other places. It's actually a white LED that shines blue :)
 
You'd pay around 50c-R2 per LED, depending on the power rating. You get some pretty bright LEDs...

oh, and I want some of them to flash, any one have any idea's on how to do this? I can solder pretty well btw, so no worries on that :D

oh, and at R2 on led, that sound fair(i'm guessing the R0.50 ones aint the best) so @ R40, hmmm.... should be perfect :D

Communica has LED’s that flash all by themselves. :D
 
The 50c ones are fine. If I churn 3V through one it actually hurts my eyes. If you aren't impressed with the price of a flashing LED (which is a lot easier to do than building a circuit), I will look for a 555 timer circuit for you.

na, i think self flashing LED's will do just fine (and i bet it's a lot cleaner as well then building my own circuit)

But these are for a pc, so i need led's that run on about 12v's, say, run them off a Hard drive power connector (use one bank of 10 normal ones, and about bank of flashing ones)
 
An LED runs on between 20 and 100mA apiece and each LED (Light Emitting Diode) has a voltage drop of around 1.2-1.6V but can only handle around 2-3V each. So You could use 5-6 LEDs in series and pop a 2kiloOhm resistor in there (depending on the amp rating on the rail)

Jip that’s what I would do, just remember (you probably already now this) if one LED goes/breaks connection none of them will work?:)

Pretty much. I don't feel like doing the equations to work out the current on a parellel circuit but yeah, you could actually try it on a parallel circuit. You should use a 2kiloOhm resistor on each LED then.

but is it possible to run them in parallel? by that i mean, run 5 of them on a circuit, so they all run on one Hard drive power connector, but off that i make them fall into 4 banks.
each bank has 1 2kiloOhm and 5 led's?

Why not use the 5v bus? Then the resistor will be smaller?
 
Well as long as the current through each LED doesn't exceed it's maximum power rating, it will work. I'll paint a picture and upload it for you.
