Free POS system

Hi All,
There actually is a TOTALLY free free pos system ...no not an accounting system wishing to be a POS system....
check out http://www.freepos.co.za
I see this is only going live on the 1st of September 2010, but seems well worth the wait

In the long term its probably better to pay and know you getting omething decent with good service and back up then go the freeware route. Especially if you using it in a business.

With that said, do you know of any good paid POS systems?

I cant say im an expert on the subject but im sure Quickbooks, Pastel and a quick google shows Regality as companies that would probably have it.

Great to hear that actually because up until now I've been using a Java coded one which I coded myself and I am looking for a more professional program.

Try Tuxshop, lemon or Openbravo

Have tested those before, a few more listed at this linkhaven't tried them out though!

Also just because its web-based(php POS) doesn't mean you have to be online all the time, just means you'd have to run a local web-server(i.e.- apache)

I never really used any POS in a real-life situation as "The Boss" wasn't convinced at the benefits of swapping to a free/opensource alternative....

Just checked out the Freepos and not bad. Its an online solution but is perfect for a small business. Looking into it for my wifes small business (hair salon), might actually use it but still undecided.

Freepos

We installed freepos in our computer business. With their setup manuals not available yet we called them in to come and do this for us. (I mean we have just saved R25 000.00+ on software - 5 workstations & a server) We have now been using it for 3 weeks and we are happy. The system is very comprehensive & have so much more than we imagined or what they advertise on the website. The service has been friendly, excellent & professional.

It is well worth a try and I foresee that once the manuals are ready to buy, it would not be difficult to set this up and maintain it on your own. It is however nice to know that there is a team available if we need help in the future.

it is really worth the effort: www.freepos.co.za
