Where can one have a tracking unit removed in JHB

I need to have the tracking unit in my Audi removed, it has failed and is draining the battery something silly.

Now where does one go in JHB North for this kind of operation?

Sorry forgot to mention, I have no idea what it is, IE tracker or netstar.

Leave the car in hillbrow overnight?

nah I rate find out what brand it is and rock up at their shop with clear proof that you own the wheels.

edit: An engineer from one of the tracking companies should be able to work out pretty fast whether its one of their rigs. I've had to deal with them quite a bit...they are usually at least semi reasonable.
 
You need to find out what brand and then go to one of their authorized dealers. Most of the time the unit is under the dash board, otherwise they'll have a code for the installed location on their system. They'll use that code to track where it is e.g. LFP = left front panel.

If you can't find out the brand take it to any tracking dealer. They should then first look under dash. If not there they'll have to strip and hope for the best.

Sure, they'll be able to track it on various information given originally. The problem however is for the OP to find out who the "they" is
 
Thanks chaps. No idea what it is, but ill take it in to any place that looks reasonable, if that is even possible.

Such a pain in the arse. Battery dies overnight. :mad:
 
You can try locate it yourself, usually located under the dash near a source of power, like a fuse box or relay box

The VIN is unique to the car & is on the registration disk (and engine/frame etc but reading it is a biatch), so not really linked to the "info given originally". Essentially it'll be easier to drive from tracker to netstar and have each check the VIN rather than "strip and hope for the best".

If it's Tracker or Netstar, it's probably behind the dash somewhere.
 
Amazing how everyone says it is in the dash somewhere. I know for a fact they fit these things everywhere, even know of someone who has it in their bumper..
 
what Ghost said - Mine is apparently in the rear fender, at least that what my mechanic says.
 
Guys, tracking companies works different from each other. The most popular place to install is under the dash especially in fleet vehicles. For most private cars nowadays they work on a code system. So in the event of you wanting the unit out due to you selling the car 3 yrs down the line....or for what ever reason, the tracking company will locate the unit by means of the location code on their system.

OP's unit is probably not under the dash btw.
 
So out of curiosity, how does the OP know it's the tracking device and how does he know he even have one?? Especially if you don't know where it is in the car in the first place?

Also, insurance should also know the details based on VIN/Numberplate. The tracking company themselves should also have this info based on VIN/Numberplate, so you might be able to phone around to find out.

You phone them a week after fitment and they tell you where you are.

Two points.

Firstly I was actually going to ask that as well. How does he know its the tracking unit?

And secondly, the company who installs the unit doesn't even tell the owner where they're going to pu it. I don't know where mine is, they told me to leave the place and go for a walk and they'll call me when they're done.
 
Aha, good question. The answer is: I sent my car in to my mechanic to have him try find out why my battery is dying if I leave the car for a few days. He did some tests and found that there was a tracking unit and it was pulling 1A of power, I think that's what he said.

Anyway, when I collected the car he said that it is the tracker draining the battery as well as the blue tooth module which is now faulty. I had to remove the fuse otherwise the battery would die overnight practically. Problem now is that the battery is dying over night regardless of if the fuse is in or not.
