What gives??
When the pandemic hit, a lot of factories shut down, including the ones pushing out GT 1030 cards and the like. When production resumed there was a surge in demand from work-from-home initiatives, so that soaked up all the produce they had.

Prior to the pandemic, NVIDIA also hadn't really remodeled their low-end parts. You just had the GTX 1650 and 1650 Super. AMD didn't either, but they were fine selling excess RX 570 and RX580 stock.

Can you elaborate a bit on the used cars in US vs ZA?

Second-hand cars in SA are expensive, in the US you can buy a 2yr old car for dirt cheap compared to it's original selling price. It's unfortunately an indication of how fscked our economy is and how little buying power our money has.

Think of toys like off-road bikes, jetskis etc, 15yrs ago average joe purchased those, now it's become the domain of the well off.

The joke used to be that you'd buy a BMW, drive it off the dealer's lot, and it immediately lost 25% of its value. Now you'd be hard-pressed to find even 10% off most cars from two years ago.
