Where do I get a passive power supply.

Cyberdyne has the Seasonic X-460L on their price list.

That is the best passive PSU out there without a doubt.

You'll pay more than a R1000 for it tho.

It also needs to be mounted so that it faces upward (eg. heat can escape). Very very specialized item but incredible quality and no noise ;)

If you have a Sandy Bridge T CPU (eg. 2100T, 2500T) you should use those mini-box PSUs (PicoPSU above) with a 80watt 12volt regulated supply. Completely passive and the T cpu range will not exceed the power requirements unless you have a heavy duty GPU installed or many hard-drives. Ideally a HTPC should only have an SSD, Motherboard and 2500T Sandy Bridge with motherboard. Slap a 80w PicoPSU in there and you're good to go.

some psu's tend to make a squeeking noise which is very iritating, I bought a Gigabyte psu once, returned it the same day, they swopped it out and the new one made the noise again, i then sold it to a guy who doesnt care much bout pc's. In the meantime i got a Cougar modular psu which is awesome and doesnt bother me at all with the noises.

I'd buy the Seasonic without thinking twice if i. It would fit into my Coolermaster elite 100 case (very small case) and ii. It was available from anyone but Sybaritic.

My system is a 2100T with an SSD and no GPU, but the only picoPSU with a 24 pin Motherboard plug and the 4 pin Other Motherboard plug is the 120w (?) unit at R 750 + R 600 for the AC-DC brick. I don't mind paying, but I sense that those prices are a rip off.

Unless I do like EffKay suggests and just disconnect the fan and hope for the best.

I haven't yet decided what to do.
