I am off on a months holiday to asia next week and was wondering if you guys know where the best place would be to get a PS3 or xbox...

I am going to singapore and Hong kong, which would be the main places to get on my trip... I found prices for hong kong (R3800 for a 60gig ps3), just nothing for Sing...

Anyone been there and got any info??

I can't help with the foreign stuff, but I do suggest you rather get that sort of thing locally. Maybe pick up a wii or DS, they're built like oldschool brick shuthouses. The 360 should be PAL which you won't get over there, and the PS3 BD player will be zoned for that region so local discs will be useless.

Local Sony also don't cover foreign warranties, and while Xbox do, you would rather have a local one otherwise swapouts can be a mission.

Just my 2 cents.

The only thing I can advise is to shop around and don't just accept the initial asking price. I agree with the above regarding region coding issues. Until there are hacks to fix these.

Yes a 3rd agreement here, rather buy the ps3 here - it will sort out issues regarding the warranty also.

PSP and DS lites should be fine really but a PS3, not suggested.
Hong Kong is easy - Nathan Road or Mangkok Area, just be wary of pirate products or bad warranties.

well, i am not gonna go rush out and buy blue-ray dvd's to watch.,... i am purely getting it to play games for the foreseeable future. I know that the games are not region restricted, so i don't think thats gonna be an issue..

The main reason why i am keen to get it there is because it is almost 70% cheaper there... R3800 for a 60gig ps3, compared to R5800 for a 40gig version here..

I would go with the ps3 as the xbox is pal and importing games can be a problem. If you buying a console here get a xbox360

go for the 60g in singapore, there is a slim chance that the ps3 will have problems its not crap like the xbox 360!! and hong kong is way cheaper than singapore for electronic stuff so rather buy it in hong kong, plus they will give you a whole lot of extras for free!! enjoy

Fanboi alert!

i must say one game i miss on ps3 at the mo thats on xbox is the new ace combat

It's funny how PS3 fanboys hold on to RRoD like it's their virginity.

Well in my case both came and went a long time ago and all I can tell you is that both are pretty anti climatic and no big deal once you get over them. ;)

In my years I've never seen a RRoD. Okay, once I unplugged the cable video cable and the RRoD appeared - but you plugin the cable and it goes away. RRoD isn't as ominous as they would make out. Especially since M$ has a no questions asked replacement policy on faulty consoles.

Red ring of death.
The earlier versions of 360 had overheating problems.
The power light on the front of the 360 turns red - google RROd and see what happens.

Before the ps3 fanbois start - it has been sorted out with later systems and it hardly ever happens now.
Doobiwan and crew can give you a better explanation.

Nah, that's bang on Kage. ;)

All models currently on the market are 'fixed'. The tell tale sign is if the 360 has HDMI, then it's 'fixed'. (That's not the solution, it indicates the correct model ;))

Even if you have an older 360, while it's not exactly something to look forward to, if it RRoDs, you're covered by a 3 year in store swap out warranty. When mine went I had a brand new one in my lounge within an hour.
