Where to have kindle repaired

I cracked the screen of my wife's new kindle over the weekend. :cry:
We where at the farm and the power went out. Its so dark there that you cannot see your hand in front of your face. I was crawling onto the bed from the bottom and she had left kindle kindle on the bed and all I heard was a soft crack. :(
I knew immediately that it was poked.

The only problem is the cracked screen. You can still it working and changing pages as such on the working parts of the screen.

Is there anywhere in Joburg that can replace the screen? :cry:

I obviously have been to the amazon site and searched up and down only to find that Amazon don't repair kindles. They will only replace them under warranty.
So no: Useless post of the day actually.

I was trying to get to the unit at the top of the bed without falling over all the kids toys and suitcases and crap on the floor to get the torch.
 
Isn't the E-Ink screen the most expensive component? I think even if you find someone to replace it it will still be cheaper just to buy a new one. Sorry dude :(

My sister bought one at wantitall, and it broke.
They want her to pay R2300 to get it fixed.

Will she be able to senf it to Amazon instead?

Kindle 1, 2, 3 or DX?

How old is it, still in the warranty period? I would try Amazon first as they will replace for free. Even if out of warranty I would still try Amazon as they are quit lenient.

They are hard to come by and I doubt you will find it in SA.

Anyway, the Kindles display was/is designed by a US company called E Ink and manufactured in Taiwan by Prime View International. They don't have distributors in SA but they do in Europe etc, maybe if you contact them they can point you to reseller etc.

Just get the new Wi-Fi one, cost me R1300, it will be the easiest and should get you back to sleeping in your bed;-)
