Hi guys! And happy fathers day to all the dads on here. :)

I just received a great opportunity to work for an awesome company in Northern Bryanston.

I am from Pretoria and I do not know johannesburg that well. I am planning to move and my budget for Rent is R6500.
I am looking for a decent safe place with at least one room and a shower.

Can anyone help me out, where should I look? which area has the least traffic? :)

Think about it this way: Sandton is the centre of the circle, and traffic from the surrounding (cheaper) areas is flowing inwards during the morning and outwards in the evening.

If you live in Bryanston and work in Bryanston, that'd be a LOT less traffic than living in Fourways (northern edge of the circle) and working in Bryanston.

Alternatively you could live in Rivonia and head north against the flow of peak traffic.

Bryanston has plenty of residential options, albeit most are a bit older than the new areas further out.

Thanks fox! :)

Yes I am looking at staying on the inside of the circle. What is the best way to find a place?

Sandton is a trafic nightmare. The whole north of Joburg is.

Actually, when you live in Sandton you're quite often going against the traffic. Living outside Sandton while working in it is where you really suffer.

Private Property, IOL property, Property24, in that order. You may need to stretch your budget a little bit to get a decent place though.

Agreed. Gumtree can sometimes have some bargains, but you do also tend to be dealing with the kind of landlord who wants to post a free advert and not even pay for that much (so take it as a caution).

I was treating Sandton as the little cluster that's "real Sandton". These days Bryanston and Rivonia seem to be trying to market themselves as Sandton too, which is just lies :P

Yeah yeah I'm poor cos I live in Morningside :P

Morningside seems like the cheapest area if you want to be real close to Sandton. I'm actually moving there in August. Rental is way cheaper than other areas within 5km radius to Sandton CBD.

North of the N1

Northriding and Olivedale will probably get you best bang for buck, Douglasdale is slightly easier wrt traffic.

If you've got flexi time then working from 6 to 3/3:30 makes a huge difference

No, I drive through there on my way to fourways, you do not want to live there. The traffic to get out of the suburb is insane.

I'm renting my cottage out.

OK. But those of us that live here driving to Bryanston and Melrose Arch reckon it's a good idea.
