Morning all

I live in a rural area, and after spending most of the morning with telksommel trying to find if/when etc our exchange will be ADSL enabled I didnt find one single solitary individual that could give me an answer or a solution or in fact anything intelligent!!!
I was refererred to several departments and given telephone numbers that either dont work or just ring!!

No surprise there.

We have about 50 odd farmers etc in the area who like me need a decent connection , so im trying to get everyone together to join me to get ADSL/WIMAX in the area.... thats the easy part.

Now would anyone know where to start at telksommel ??? a contact number of an intelligent life form would be useful .

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Morning to you too Carol.

Would you mind filling us in what area you're talking about.

I know that we have a number for someone who can give us some answers for CT area. I have his number somewhere and I remember getting a PM from another forumite - I'll have a squizz and see.

But the area you're in would help alot :) ;)

Ciao

:D okay i made this post at 4.30am ...

Between Stanger and Greytown .... doringkop/kearsney area

Carol - What telkom usually do is enable an exchange if they have 10+ people interested, make a petition and take it to your local telkom office and fwd it to their head office and they might make a plan.

What some people have been doing to get it adsl enabled is order 10 acc's once exchange upgraded/order numbers given cancel 9 and take their 1 for their line.

Dodgy but hey its telkom.

Tip one for calling telkom - If a woman picks up ask to speak to a man, just choose any name e.g. donovan , theyll either find a donovan or say did you mean xxx, say yes... No offence but I havnt had one female answer the phone at telkom that could actually help me with my query.

Interesting theory - but I tend to dissagree. You have a +-30% chance of landing youself a operator that knows what he OR she is doing.

Lets see , 6 self installs , only one that worked immediatly, and each time i called support for another 5 the most helpful person or person that fixed my problem was male. Its not intended as a sexist comment its my own personal experience , the women tend to over analayze or run you through the basics over and over , e.g. i can ping but i cant browse, please go verify your adsl line. That type of crap that has no relevance is what they seem to tell me.

Thanks guys .. greatly appreciated ;)

I have found generally that the call centre people are friendlier and sound more eager to help lately. Its management thats behind the problem not the poor sods that have to listen to us customers.
