I never had a 3G stability problem for my data card, but for mobile phones it sucks!

my friend started complaining that i sold him a phone and he kept on getting disconnected when there was a 3g to gprs transition. that was a N93.
i noticed my fathers 6680 gave same problem.
thursday i received my n95 and used it with a MTN sim card, no problems with 3g to gprs...and i tried the vodacom card and i kept on getting disconected.

im sure more people must have the same problem.

any words from your behalf v3g?

Combining the fact that you don't have problems with your data card which has nothing to do with Nokia, as well as the common Nokia theme in the phones you've been trying, as well as known issues with the Nokia 6680 as documented in this forum, I would suggest that you investigate whether each of these Nokia phones have the latest firmware version appropriate for use on Vodacom's 3.xG & 2.75G networks...

i sent the N93 for firmware upgrade to Nokia Pretoria, so im sure that is fine...but it still has issues on 3G to GPRS
Maybe post the firmware versions on each of these phones, and then you should be able to see if anyone else has a later firmware version for their [corresponding] phone, as well as whether they are experiencing the same problem...

If you stay on either 3G or GPRS, you're OK? It when theres a handover that you get disconnected?

Is this only from 3G to GPRS? The other direction is fine?

Do you allow the datacard to also switch bearer (3G-preferred profile) or do you keep it forced to 3G (3G-only)?

You get my drift, sounds like the phones are switching bearers but probably the data card not.

If you do get disconnected when switching from 3G to GPRS there could be a number of reasons, including lack of capacity on the 2G network when you switch.

Best is to try and ensure you never switch in the first place, but not much you can do with a handset.

my data card is fine, even if i put on 3g preferred, it can switch and my internet wont get disconnected.
from 3g to gprs, after 5 sec, my internet disconnects on the phones.
from gprs to 3g theres no issue.
n93 got v21.10.06
n95 got v10.0.018
6680 not here atm.
i cant just select UMTS network because I wont get reception most times, and i dont wana select GSM only because i like my video calls.
please help.thanks

Pass me the data numbers and areas, won't you? And contact names and numbers.

I'm having the same problem.

Using a Motorola RAZR V6 MAXXX.

Phone is stable as long as it's ruining 2g or 3g, but disconnects when switching between the two.

Did a software update check and no new updates were found.

Anny help would be greatly appreciated!! Just lemme know what other info you need and I'll post it a.s.a.p.

Could be. It's typically a combination of network and handsets that cause the drop in handover. I've asked to check for a general problem.

Nokias switching process is not the best out there, even when manually switching from Dual to GSM the phone has to restart to change modes, other phones dont have to.

Not one my N95

I will try to see how other brands work with 3G to GPRS switching while online.
V3g still no updates?
What really doesnt make sense is that if MTN has no problems, why does Vodacom have?

what u mean drop calls?

When the phones switch form either 3G or GSM the call drops. (If you on a call obviously)
As for data a simalar thing happens if 10 people jump onto 3G while you on, it sometimes kicks you off and gives them priority on their initial connection, but they can also get kicked of sooner or later.

The easiest way to test that is if you using Mxit on 3G you get kicked of more frequently with a Nokia then on SE (Only coz I use it the most) a SE will just loose connection but then finds it and connects faster (switching process) than on a Nokia. Nokia kicks you off completley...
