The problem with eggs is that it can make your cholesterol skyrocket.

Not true. You know your body manufactures 80% of the cholesterol you need, right? In other words, if you don't eat enough cholesterol, your body has to manufacture it.

As for some of the linked posts - bah! First you don't need anywhere near 1.5g of protein per pound of lean body mass. Maybe if you are on gear. For the rest of us, 1g per pound of lean mass is sufficient. You don't need anymore.

Whey is useful because it is quick, easy and very high in protein. What Lament linked to you is just raw whey protein isolate - very high in protein, but no flavour. You couldn't use it to make a protein shake unless you also added stuff like berries etc to give it flavour. I use Nutritech's whey and casein products, which are a little lower in protein per 100g (something like 75% protein whereas whey protein isolate is 90% protein), but the advantage is I just have to mix it with water and it already tastes good.

Eating protein more times per day initiates a greater anabolic response and you will grow more muscle. But, its also worse for your insulin resistance, which will make it harder to stay lean. Eating more often does not make you burn more energy - in fact, eating less often tends to do that.

And you also don't have to have a calorie surplus to put muscle on. I've put muscle on (visibly) and gone up in strength while also losing fat. I've technically been undereating for the last 5 months. However, I've made sure to always eat enough essential fat and enough protein (about 150g per day of protein). I don't eat carbs except as a treat sometimes on weekends. Your body doesn't need carbs at all. I might start eating a bit more carbs per day, because it might positively affect my gains. I read a book which suggested that, if your glycogen stores are low, dietary protein will be converted into glucose and then into glycogen in order to replenish that. In other words, if you eat carbs and keep your glycogen full, then your body will use more of the protein that you eat for muscle building. I still need to research this though.

Go to leangains.com and look it up. It really does work.

Soy protein is cheap and is a complete protein.

That's what I use.

It completely depends on the person. If the person is diabetic or predisposed to high cholesterol, eggs more than 3 eggs yolks a weekly has shown to lead to an increase in risk for heart problems.

People who have difficulty controlling their total and LDL cholesterol may want to be cautious about eating egg yolks and instead choose foods made with egg whites. The same is true for people with diabetes. In the Nurses’ Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-up Study, heart disease risk was increased among men and women with diabetes who ate one or more eggs a day. (1) For people who have diabetes and heart disease, it is best to limit egg consumption to no more than three yolks per week.

Eggy Sauce

A normal person may be able to chomp down eggs, but the vast majority of people could have high cholesterol and not even know it. Hence it being called the "Silent Killer". I am not saying that eggs are bad, I am saying that you cannot blindly recommend something that has a very real possibility of having a negative effect on a persons health.

Even the FDA has changed their stance on dietary cholesterol.

You need at least a dump truck of protein a day if you klap the gym properly. And new kidneys

Chrome shop and Takealot have decent specials occasionally. Free delivery is a bonus

I recommend Nutritech Whey

Nope.... Approximately 2.2 grams per kilogram of body weight. Lower if you are over weight and higher if you are very lean.

I'm at 75kg's and gym hard so thats about 165g. Between my eggs for breakfast, chicken for lunch and dinner and my shake after gym and other odds and ends (in pasta, rice milk etc) it's easily achievable.

I put on muscle with just 1.5 g per kg.I have left all protein powders and have never looked or felt better.Chicken fetuses ftw!
