I need an extra TV for a room. Don't want to break the bank so let's say 5K is my max( give or take some change)

-Doesn't need to be 4k at all.
-Preferably have Netflix and DStv now built in so I don't need another mibox.
-No Telefunken.
-Anything 40" and up is fine.

Looks like there's some some Hisense and sinotech in the range but I don't know their software?

Recommend me something?

The cheapest and nastiest one is the one. TVs become obsolete so fats there is really no point in breaking the bank. Get one with a DVB T2 tuner in it.

Hisense is locally assembled. Then there is some made in Durban also. That is of course if you can buy one anywhere.

This is what I am using and it is not a bad option for you. It's 4K HDR10+, has Dolby Atmos passthrough via Dolby Digital Plus. Has the Apple TV and music apps, DSTV Now, Showmax, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Google Play Movies, Tidal, Youtube and other apps I don't even use (I know it has Spotify, Deezer, VIU and Plex as well). Got WiFi and Bluetooth. Got a DVB-T2 tuner. Lacks a bit of brightness for the HDR and doesn't have Dolby Vision (Better form of HDR) but other than that pretty good for a entry level TVScreenshot_20200503-213534_Google.jpg

What's the dvb t2 tuner for?
@Geoff.D
We're still rocking our near 9 year old lg 40", but there's no antenna plugged in. I've never had the urge to upgrade it.

Any case my daughter started watching series on Netflix but I don't like that she's doing it on the phone. Hence just needing something that has Netflix built in.

Also game is happy to sell you a TV now, duno about makro.

Not easy finding a telly for that price with DSTV on it.
My Sinotech has the app but i cannot sign in on the app, Netflix works and Youtube is crap coz you keeping ads every 15 minutes that you have to manually skip. My TV is stuck on Android 4.4.4 so that is also something to consider when buying a new Smart TV, and my telly is only 3 years old

Look for a second hand OLED from 2018/19. Any Samsung or LG should be fine - they are built so the blue oleds dont burn in or go dim over useful time. Google for tests people have done

Then get yourself a new chromecast or nvidia shield so you can consume streaming/linux distros from the net.

2019 LG B9 with a Shield on US Netflix and the odd linux distro from time to time. Best ever.

You pay no attention to his budget. A shield by itself would use up all the available funds. Plus he specifically mentioned he doesn't want an extra box...

That's why I said second hand, and to get a shield/chromecast later :) . The shield/chromecast you just stick to the back of the screen with double sided tape or even hot glue

Get a HiSense smart TV. They've got a presence on the forum should you need anything.

When it breaks in 4 years, there'll be newer technology out anyway.

And its cheap.

OLED for a bedroom? 99% of the time they'll be watching TV when it's dark so won't notice whether it's OLED or KAKLED.

Just purchased the

Thanks I just purchased this, I'm interested to see how it compares the the B7100 and B7200 models from Hisense and the STL-55G50UM from Sinotec as those were my other options around the same price. If anyone has experience with the Hisense B7200 vs Samsung RU7100 vs STL-55G50UM please do share! I wouldn't mind cancelling my order for a better overall value TV.

My TV's come standard with YouTube, DSTV Now, Netflix, Prime Video and Showmax (there's some other schit apps that I don't really bother with). It runs HiSense's proprietary OS.

I paid R3499 for each a year ago, though mine are 32 inches. All connect via 2.4Ghz to my router and I've never had any issues with quality or buffering (100Mbps fibre link)

mine is 55" and i got it for R5999 3 years ago, UHD and all but the Android is outdated hence the low price, i knew nothing back then about Android devices. Live and Learn

The LG 49UM7340 is the best TV on a budget. It's got a better build quality and IPS screen compare to the SAMSUNG.

Thanks for this, the magic remote is also a real value add. I've used one before and they are great! Gonna change my order on Takealot to this. I've heard some nasty stuff about LG's after-sales service though...
