I need to upgrade my graphics card, but Im in the unfortunate position that I still have an AGP system. Which card to I get? Budget is max R1500. I have a 5900XT card with 128MB memory, but starting to struggle with the new games. Any advice would be appreciated. Are there any DX10 AGP cards available?

I'm in a similar position. The good news is that DX10 AGP cards have just started appearing on the web. Currently it is only ATI/AMD that have such hardware available. Here's an example:

On the other hand, you could go for the established AGP champion, the X1950Pro, like this:

The latter card does not support DX10 but on paper it seems like it will edge ahead of the 2600-based cards in some important respects. Unfortunately I have not yet seen a test or any benchmarks of these new cards so my advice is to wait a while before buying anything.

BTW I saw a recent test somewhere where a X1950Pro AGP was stacked against its PCI-E brother on a platform with identical hardware apart from the cards themselves. Both cards performed virtually identically. IMHO the move to PCI-E was probably premature.

My friend's plain GeForce 6600 on PCI-E performs better than his brother's GeForce 6600GT on AGP (according to him)

Maybe his ego got the better of him :D

I've still got an AGP slot (Intel 865 chipset), a plain Geforce 6600 and can play Prey in 1024 X 768 in Very High detail, also Grand Theft Auto : San Andreas in 1280 X 1024 with 2X anti-aliasing.

That's good enough for me! :)

*I'm using Forceware 163.71 drivers.
