Hi Guys

Looking to upgrade my media player, which is the best android media player atm.

Looking for H.265 and 10bit.

Supersport and DSTV now would be a big bonus. :)

I just got myself one of these and in early testing it plays H265 perfectly:

No idea about 10 bit.
It comes with Lollipop installed and Google Play store enabled (the cheapie ones don't always have Google Play), so I imagine the DSTV apps should at least be available, dunno how well they would work.

Have you tried something like a 20GB HEVC 7.1 10bit file? :)

Here comes the brand wars, you can ask 40 different people and can get up 30 different devices.

All I can do is give you the up's and downs of the devices I have.

Remix
Remix Mini From http://www.jide.com/mini With an Rii Air Mouse
Pro's Have a PC look and feel, runs Kodi like a dream and plays most media without problems. I have the 2Gig model that seems a hell of a lot more responsive than the Mygica in the lounge.
Con's I find myself constantly turning off the mouse function on the remote as the nav bar appears in Kodi when you hit the edges. Does not output 4K, can decode but only outputs to 1080p
Need to install Play Store manually (even if its a simple 1 click step, its one more than what should be needed)

MYGica
MyGica ATV582 from http://mygica.com/Enjoy-TV/ATV582.html
Pro's Does 4k output and comes rooted, with Google Play and Kodi Pre-installed.
Showmax & Netflix works like a dream (Comes with both pre installed)
Con's Is just good for media, using it for anything else is cumbersome to almost impossible. Navigating Showmax can sometime lead to head aches and unneeded stress but that is more the app than the devices problem.

I have the Remix in my bedroom and Mygica in the lounge, both streaming from the media server (via Kodi) in the study with little to no hic-ups. What I did find is I can not stream both on WiFi at the same time, so did go over to Ethernet.

No complaints whatsoever and the community and support on their forum is active and helpful.

It costs a bit more than the Mbox, mygica etc. but i believe its a solid product and worth the money.

Supports .265 and 10bit HEVC, Runs android lolipop, and Supersport app works 100%

Well, the reason I bought my one was because it was cheap enough to "just try out". Like R250 or something, free shipping and about 40 or 50 bucks customs.
Anyway, no issues so far but I haven't started using it as my main player yet. Still cutting over from the Pi3.
(Mainly use for Exodus streaming and networked media via Emby / sharing). And gonna be using it for Google Music and Google photos as well.
Control it with a Rii airmouse and a Rii mouse / keyboard combo. Not sure which is better yet. Probably mostly just use my Harmony mostly within Kodi at least.

Compare that to the price of a Minix or a Mygica etc. I get most of the features for a fraction of the price. Will probably upgrade eventually, but this should do for at least a year.

I'm also looking at upgrading, got an MX2 way back when AVSupply still sold them, but i see they don't stock any media players anymore (since the whole "pirate wars") I see takealot stock some, but nothing that jumps of the page. Where is the best place to buy the new media player?

PS. Sorry for the thread hack, but it seems applicable to you as-well

What about GTXGaming?

OH! Just checked and they no longer list media players - that's strange?

Perhaps after that pirate wars you mentioned :(

I still got the mx2 :) but its old now.

Looking for new player which can handle the new formats.

I see groupon has the MXQ Pro for R799 but I dont know about its performace.

I ordered one of these from Groupon based on feedback from 3 colleagues who purchased them from Groupon as well. They seem quite happy with the devices but it's still early days though. They've only had it for about a month.

Oh and forumite Dualmeister is using an Odroid. Those are also pretty good. More bare-bones, hardware wise (closer to a Pi), but good supports all formats etc. I think. And quite reasonably priced.

+1 I also have one. Works great, stream to my NAS via wireless AC - get around 400Mbps to my Tp-link archer. There are regular firmware updates and a fantastic support forum.

My 1st one was actually faulty and the guys at minixsa replaced it without batting an eyelid. (12 month warrantee). That kinda service matters.

Cant stress how much the regular updates and forum support mean, just gives you a sense of peace of mind.

Also got myself a cheapie bluetooth controller.
Playing games like MC5, Asphalt 8, dead trigger and really enjoying it and the minister of home affairs aint complaining.

Like i said, its a bit more expensive than the other ones out there, but worth IMHO

in the end you get what you pay for
