Okay so a quick question,
Im looking for a new board that im going to be putting a Q6600 on.
I am not planning on running SLI at any point, but I have read that its not too hard to get the clock in the region of 3GHZ on this CPU.
Most of the boards overclockers are talking about are SLI boards, now is that because of the chipset or are they using SLI?
I dont want to pay the extra for an SLI board if its not neccessary.

It's quite easy to hit 3GHz with the Q6600 :)

We recommend certain boards, such as the P5N-E SLi because they are great performers and overclockers, not just because of SLi capabilities.

I would recommend the P5N-E SLi, personally. :)

LOL@ WKJ.
I recommend Asus P5K(P35 chipset). Great OC'ing board and the one i will be getting for my Quad. Depends on your budget?

The P5N-E SLi is on the 650i chipset isnt it?
I can see those going for around R1300 or so.

Shot Rocket boy! Awesome price. Thanls that will help my budget! The striker is a 680i board. And the P35 chipsets do OC better than the Nvidia ones although the 680 does OC very well.

Last question tho,
I see some of them have crossfire support rather than SLi but that doesnt really affect performance on Nvidia cards does it?

Not at all.But with the P5k you will only be able to CF ATI boards and Sli with the Nvidia chipsets. But it wont affect the performance of a nVidia card at all.

Oh thats cool then, cos im prolly going to get a single 8800GT in there. Im running an AMD 3800+ single core and a 6600GT at the moment so im sure the new rig will keep me smiling without SLi
:D

But not if you want to OC. The intel boards don't OC at all as far as im aware.

No need to "LOL", you know I'm right. I wouldn't have recommended it if I didn't have enough experience with it to know what a great board it is...

lol 680i/650i if u gonna do SLI else there is no other reason not to get a P35

I have also heard that the genuine Intel boards dont overclock at all. Is that true?

Gigabyte N650SLI-DS4L Nforce 650I LGA775 ATX

is looking fair enough for some oc-ing
