Which brand?

Apologies. Yes, remotely?
OK, so AFAIK the Solis app will give the same 5 minute delayed monitoring as Sunsynk Connect. Feedback on the app (from a user's review) is that it is very good. Also 3x 6K Solis inverters in parallel is quieter than 1x 8K Sunsynk, this according to a Powerforum user that won a 6K Solis S6 in the recent Powerforumstore giveaway.

Sunsynk/Deye can be set to 60sec refresh

Get solar assistant on whatever inverter you do get. But Sunsynk / Deye are great.

Honestly given the install base in SA and subsequent support you would be safer going with a Deye/Sunsynk.

This is not to say you other inverter brands are not as good or don't represent better value for money, but if you're looking for the path of least resistance that's where you wanna look.

I have been doing some research and so many guys recommend Victron / Sunsynk.

last night I was chatting to someone and they said rather look at Luxpower, saying its the same as Sunsync but cheaper.

I wanted your advice,
Also how would one go about specing the system in terms of how many panels and batteries you would need?
I assume that the system will use direct sun during the day to power the home and also reserve some for charging the batteries?
I assume the system intelligently does this?

How many would one need ? 2 or 3 ? Lets say you go for 2 or 3 and also need power during the day, essentially going off grid unless there are rainy days then how many panels and what size system - inverter - would one need to charge 2 or 3 and still use power during the day?
Its a single phase house
I've provided links to articles from MyBroadband that highlight the top inverter brands. Additionally, I've included information on GoSolar rental options, which advise on the ideal combination based on your electricity bill.

Problem with gosolar is that they done offer rent to own

Thanks for all the replies,
What are the questions one should ask then choosing an installer?
What does one need to check?
Cabling? What other equipment is needed besides inverter and batteries?
What size of cabling? Venitlation?
Could we perhaps get a list of questions to ask?

Thanks guys

I meant to look at what combination of panels and battery to choose depending on your electricity bill, gives you a rough idea on how to spec your system
Eg. Medium (bill R1740) 8 panels, 5kw inverter and batteryIMG_1139.jpeg

What do you classify as "real time monitoring"?
Live monitoring ino is within seconds

ie being able to see the usage as you use stuff in shedding

ie cooking in shedding waiting 20 secons or 5minutes for cloud data isn't ideal

Luckily even on cheap inverters you can have this with a cheap pi with either solarassistant and SMH

Yea and a single battery isn't ideal for getting the most out of that panel count imo you will struggle to save what you pay on those packages with single battery

would need more

Sure you can time shift load but there is only so much you can use on the spot

Most of these packages are focussed on getting people load shedding protection and some savings not optimum savings

If it was then the battery costs would go up and thus the monthly too yes the cost to savings ratio would be better but that would alienate those that go for these renting options

Those that can't afford to get solar without it imo

I would never go for a renting option
Rather do a phased install
