I have been doing some research and so many guys recommend Victron / Sunsynk.

last night I was chatting to someone and they said rather look at Luxpower, saying its the same as Sunsync but cheaper.

I wanted your advice,
Also how would one go about specing the system in terms of how many panels and batteries you would need?
I assume that the system will use direct sun during the day to power the home and also reserve some for charging the batteries?
I assume the system intelligently does this?

How many would one need ? 2 or 3 ? Lets say you go for 2 or 3 and also need power during the day, essentially going off grid unless there are rainy days then how many panels and what size system - inverter - would one need to charge 2 or 3 and still use power during the day?
Its a single phase house

How long is a piece of string..?

The string in this case is your average electricity usage a month and whether you want all appliances on solar, including high draw ones like geyser and stove . as a basic starting point, calculate your average electricity usage per month for the last 12 months and divide that by 30 days.. this will get you close to a daily estimate of usage..

The daily kw estimate is the basis for how many batteries and panels you would need, taking into account high draw appliances you want on solar/battery.. at a minimum you want the panels to cover your daily kw usage and be able to charge your batteries to full, for whatever discharge they took overnight..

There is more to it, but the above is where to start..

You need to decide what you want to supply with the inverter (and battery power during loadshedding), which will then determine the sizing of everything.
Best to get an installer to come out and do a load test, switch on everything you need, and check the loads, check your municipal bill and assess daily usage, then decide

Where are you based? We can then suggest someone professional to get all this done for you, and get you up and running. As it stands, without a thorough background on these aspects, a shady installer could rip you off and do a terrible job without you knowing till it's too late.

So I see you in jhb.
These are two installers well recommended and active on Powerforum. Master Sunsynk installers (not that that means anything).
They will be able to assess your needs and suggest accordingly.

You could also ask Powerforum store for recommended installer.

I have a Sunsynk 5kw smart inverter 10x 450w panels and 5kw Hubble lithium battery.
All working perfectly. Installed a timer on the geyser i can controll via cell phone. The inverter is controlled by a cell phone app as well.
Bought everything from Voltex. R84k.
Install was about 20k.
Now just need another 3 batteries.
Plenty of solar power being produced storing it is another game.
Changed the geyser element to a 2kw one.
Escum gets about R2.00 a day from me on a sunny day.

Something interesting if you go Sunsynk get their batteries as well then you have a 10 year warranty.
If not they try and only give you a 5 year warranty. Sort this out with your supplier.

@marine1 all 3 above are great choices, but I would definitely recommend giving Wimpie or Steve Fury from the Powerforumstore a call.

All 3 inverter brands which you mention are good, but some will be better choices depending on your budget, circumstances, immediate and future needs. Also consider Solis' 6th gen range, which is more advanced and cheaper than Sunsynk, as well as better local support. Their inverters' warranty can also be extended from 5 to 10 years by paying a small once-off fee of 3-5k depending on model.

Does Solis have real time monitoring?
