Which Browser is better ?

Also, AJAX is a nightmare on IE - scripts run 100% on Opera and FF and run randomly on IE.
Actually AJAX was invented for IE. Scripts only run 100% on Opera and FF because the developers of said scripts have toiled for hours to make sure they work on all the common browsers. They are mostly guaranteed to work 100% on IE as well because that's the decider. If it doesn't work in IE no point releasing it.

I am using opera for the first time today, and I sort of like it.
FF is great too.
While dloading Opera i saw that mini-opera thing for your phone, decided to dload that and I love it! It's really quite cool to be able to browse properly on my oldish phone! :))

Get Opera, especially Opera 9
I use v8.54 and after clicking on check for new release it says I'm using the newest version. I also think it's the best browser.

Doesn't open up a new window for every page. Right clicking on a link gives you open, open in new page, open in background page, open in new window and open in background window. Holding shift when clicking a link opens in a new window, holding ctrl+shift opens in a new background window.

Right clicking any image gives you open image, reload image, copy image address, save image, copy to clipboard, use on desktop and properties and you can also use the shift, ctrl+shift and ctrl keys with the menus. Besides setting the default show, don't show or show cached for images you can easily set the option for any open page from the view|images menu unlike IE. You can load/reload any individual images by right clicking them and selecting reload.

You can also set individual pages to auto-reload in any amount of time (comes in handy at 5min for the MyADSL subscription page). When you start it up again you can have it automatically open all the pages you had open when you closed it. You can even "undelete" pages that you closed before (mine is standing at 100 now, I think that's the maximum).

It can block all popups or only the ones that you didn't click on. It will notify you unobtrusively of any popups so you can choose to open them or you can later open the ones you missed.

I also like the wand and reload from cache options and the quick preferences comes in very handy. For those sites that doesn't want you to use anything but IE you can set it to identify itself as IE. It's also good very the visually impaired with its speech download. All in all a good browser for both power users and the general population while still giving you the optional extras you might need from time to time.

Will give Opera another try and see about that font issue and "Click Back" button no delay someone mentioned... : )

Must say, i don't really mind all the addons etc that you have to install yourself, and i REALLY like the ForecastFox plugin - out of the way, and nicely placed at the bottom of your screen in firefox. Should compare this to Opera aswell.

Yup Opera-Mini is one of the apps on my phone I don't think I could manage without.

Thanks! That certainly helps - just goes to show how one can miss the obvious.... :D

Just installed the Opera9.0b Beta. Now the menus suddenly have no names, all the wand passwords are gone, the last couple of days shortcuts have disappeared and some pages are crammed into the left side of the screen. I'm not even going to bother and check what else is wrong. This Beta is K@K, I'm going back to my previous version.

Back with the old version now. Menus have names again, passwords are back and all shortcuts have magically reappeared. :D What a relief.

Lol more like pre-alpha or something. :)

I used v9 beta for a while and had no such problems with it, but when I last formatted my machine i didnt even bother loading it, will rather just wait for the final version

Ja well i started using the weeklies for Opera 9 and they do have some problems but I'm just waiting for the final to come out. Main problem being that MyADSL doesnt load properly, but the forums are okay so wat the hel.
The new beta does have some nice features which 8.54 doesnt have, like biult in torrents... so good. I cant actually download torrents now!

It does rock though... FF fans (not all of them) kind of irritate me now because they make like its the only alternative and its the fastest and best browser around. Some of the stuff they say is just a lie because they have never checked out Opera.

And there are widgets with Opera 9, one of them being a weather forecaster like forecast fox. Not alot atm because its still just a beta. And of course your passwords are gone.. thats because you saved them with the other Opera and the new one installs under a differnet directory becasue its a beta for testing. silly.

No! I installed it into the same directory like I always do with an upgrade, whether it's a beta or not.
Maybe that was the problem...

If you can't render an "IE Only" page in FF, get the "IE Tab" extension. No need to swap browsers. Just one click and IE opens in a tab in FF.

In Opera you just select Tools|Quick preferences|Identify as Internet Explorer which is actually enabled by default.

i have tried out opera, and (naturally :)) went to myadsl first to check it out.

now maybe there's a way to change it, but normally, if i hover my mouse over a thread title, it will show the first few words so you can get an idea of what the thread is about. but in opera, it just showed me the url, so that was not the best first impression... ;)

anyway, i'm sure opera is a good browser, but i just like the "feel" of firefox more - personal preferences, i suppose...

Being a FF fan, I tried Opera - and I must say it is quite impressive. Many nice built in features (like the transfer tab).

A pity that rendering is not always correct (or maybe, more to the point, it is not so forgiving with page errors). MyADSL.co.za does not render correctly, and my own development site has some errors ( @ me).

If you place your mouse cursor on the line above the thread it shows you the message in your status bar at the bottom of the screen ( thats in opera )

FF :-) it does everything i need it to do and does not seem to be hijacked all the time....
