Which car for R130k?

Honda Jazz sounds like the obvious winner.

What do you plan to use the car for?

Personal use. Work and back etc. Found a 2012 Ford Fiesta 1.6 Titanium with 80k km on the clock for R134900. Seems like a great deal.

Id get the Fiesta too. I'd also leave the Honda Jazz to my mom. Reliable but boring. Fiesta drives well and looks good too. Figo isn't nice or well made.

Cars are so damn expensive. My Corolla is boring as hell but I got the repair bill for it today of R421.80. Still, id sell it and get the Fiesta instead

Solid choice! great car with a trouble free engine

These cars are great, but I promised myself my next car has to have Esp or a variant of it. Go and watch a few videos of esp in action, Fifth gear did some tests, then decided if you want a car without it. Audi is the clear winner in my books, dual climate control, leather seats, an 8" sub in the back, massive boot, the 2.0 T is also surprisingly light on fuel if driven properly, and of course POWERRRR! A sports car is a safe car.

+1 and R35,000 cheaper.

But if OP wants a cheap entrier level runabout, then the Fiesta is great.

Yup i own a mk7 first gen fiesta and i can vouch for it, awesome little car, reliable, and just feels good. but at that price point the Fezz or the Jazz just can't compare to what you get in the B7.

No cruise control, no climate control, no leather seats, down on power, down on space, down on after market parts (if that's your thing), also don't fool yourself into thinking that since its a smaller non-sports car that parts are cheaper for it.

OP please go test drive the b7, i'd hate to see you lose out on an opportunity to get more bang for your buck.

Yebo - that's the one... I'm not worried about servicing and parts - have a connection. My work is 5km from home and no traffic. Want something (very) left of center and this is it. Been eyeing the 160 for a while. :)

TBH my eyes were set on a Peugeot 306 - 2001 model with 86k odd on the clock. missed the deal and couldn't find anymore anywhere in SA - next was the MX-5 or the 160. Found the perfect 160, and so it is.

Was going to settle for a run of the mill car for R130k or so as per my OP, but that was common sense talking.

Lekker!

Saw a very nice Giulietta(2011) today for R130k. Such a pretty car.

Why not a Polo...? I have the exact same problem. I am looking at a Freelander, but everyone is telling me to stay away. The same happened with the Audi. Are older cars really that bad or is it just so much easier to find the negative reviews?
Freelander 1 you should stay away from. Freelander 2 is seen as one of the most reliable Land Rovers ever made. Go check 4x4community forums for owner feedback on the FL2.

So an update on this thread.

I take delivery of my new MG TF 160 next week Tuesday. :D

It's got over 90k km on the clock. Paid R85k for it.

It's been serviced and all niggly issues sorted out... ie. it's perfect. It's in immaculate condition for its age - having bought it from a collector.

For the fundies:

2002 MG TF 160.
1.8L double overhead cam VVC mid-engined, rear wheel drive pushing out 118kW.
0-100km/h - 6.9s.
Great sound system (factory fitted)
ABS, airbags, leather interior, electric windows etc...

I can't wait to pick it up. :)

Forgot to take interior shots.
