So, due to a phone I had 52 gigs on Dropbox. This expired so I reduced stored data and brought it down within the 7gig I have for life.
I then used Google Drive and had 8 gigs there but they both want excessive payment for storage.

Who do you use for cloud and or suggestions for max 15gigs
Thanks

Microsoft OneDrive and with office 365 you get 1TB of cloud space for 5 users.

Not sure how competitive their pricing is on cloud only options. I used to have 100gig space before I went with office 365.

I'm using OneDrive and loving it. Good apps on all platforms and 1TB storage with Office 365.

Just checked and OneDrive has the first 15gigs free and you get 7 gigs for every referral that signs up. R20 per month for 100gigs.

People are always selling Office 365 subs cheap on Carbonite and other marketplaces. Much better value for money as far as OneDrive storage is concerned.

excessive payment for storage? Cheapskate much? for $1.99 you get 100GB on Google Drive

I pay $10 a month for 1TB on Dropbox, I'm happy to pay that

Geez. You can buy a year of Office 365 for R400, which is effectively $2.43 a month. And you get Office and 1TB OneDrive storage. Seems like better value for money.

Mega.nz

50Gb free

Mega is great for sharing stuff, but doesn't offer the same level of integration that the more popular cloud services do.

Please Please please please please elaborate here because I am all bullet in the chamber ready to fire

Brilliant browser app = checked
The best mobile app = checked
The best desktop client = checked
Automatically Upload camera pictures to mega = checked
Cross platform sync = checked
Simultaneous connections = checked

I think you are thinking about Wetransfer.com
^that is used for sharing

Mega.nz on the other hand is the superior cloud storage provider including security.

Again Mega.nz

/thread

( I've been through this please show me something it can't do that all the "popular" ones can do also keep in my 50Gb is free unlike Dropbox 2Gb)

If your data needs aren't very big then Mega could be perfect for you. It has certainly come a long way since I last used it, so thanks for bringing that to my attention. For those of us who need more than 50GB storage, or more than 10GB of bandwidth, Mega is a poor option. The prices are pretty insane if you opt for a paid account.

I would like to see prices I have been through this the only thing that competes overall is Microsofts 1TB ($6.99/month) That is it.

In the paid for category one drive takes the win. HOWEVER there is no free cloud provider that can compete with mega.

Free
50Gb
10GB bandwith, but I think this is just for downloading, because I have just uploaded 21GB's of backups and on my account it says 41GB used and 1.2GB used of total monthly bandwidth.

If you want to go paid then Mega will give onedrive a run at $54.75 per year for R200GB and 1TB bandwith compared to $3.99/month for the same package on onedrive

1TB Onedrive = $6.99/month
4GB Mega.nz = $27.8/month or $334.07 per year ( plus two free months )

So even in the paid version does mega show up as a worthy player also it will be even better when the encrypted IM, email, video and voice calling is here next year.

The only provider in the paid space that can touch mega on a security space is https://tresorit.com/ other than that Mega for the win.

Sorry to be so offensive :P

I just really love mega and I hate Dropbox

Of course there are providers that compete with Mega. In fact I wouldn't put Mega in the top 3 best value propositions.

Mega:
- $5.59pm for 200GB
- $11.19pm for 500GB
- $22.38pm for 2TB

Dropbox:
- $9.99pm for 1TB
- $15pm for unlimited

Amazon:
- $59.99/year for unlimited
- So effectively $4.99pm

OneDrive:
- $1.99pm for 100GB
- $3.99pm for 200GB
- $6.99pm for 1TB with Office 365 thrown in

Google Drive:
- $1.99pm for 100GB
- $9.99pm for 1TB

iCloud:
- $0.99pm for 50GB
- $2.99pm for 200GB
- $9.99pm for 1TB

----------------------

So you see, Mega kills everyone if 50GB is enough storage for you, but gets slaughtered if you need more than that. It's cool that Mega allows more than the claimed bandwidth on the free accounts, but I can't say it would give me comfort having to rely on their goodwill like that for my cloud storage needs.

Imo the champion is Microsoft, as nothing beats the value of Office 365 and the included 1TB OneDrive storage.

Regarding Mega being the most secure, I remember this article from a while ago:
Researchers warn Mega's new encrypted cloud can't keep its megasecurity promises

Thanks for the detailed outline actually impressed with onedrive to be honest..

That link first of all thou is irrelevant because it applies to mega.co.nz and it's during the 2012/13 period under dotcom's ownership who is no longer with mega.nz ( mega.co.nz and mega.nz not the same)

Everyone of the providers you mentioned above have been compromised in the recent past thinking icloud a short while ago.

Not the old version nor the new version of mega has or will be compromised.

I pay for data privacy/security first and foremost so mega is still my favourite

:P

Suddenly iCloud and iOS don't seek so bad eh?

Although I have 200GB free on OneDrive I find it terrible and clunky on any non-Windows device or browser.

iCloud again doesn't offer much for desktop syncing, but works so much better and more seamlessly across my devices.

I have this. MS is too expensive with Office 365 as I have Office 2007 Student and am happy with it. :)

Yes but with the track record of Mega I wouldn't trust my data with him. Just now the police seize his stuff again lol.
