Hi,

So I registered a new domain, but have no time to create and design a website from scratch. I noticed in the CPanel it has installed CMS systems I can use. I know its not the best thing to do...but I want some website up while I create and design the look etc. Better to have something, than nothing at all.

I have not used any before...so want to know what the best system is in terms of ease of use, adding themes, properly formed HTML for search engines etc:

Drupal
Geeklog
Joomla 1.6
Joomla 1.5
Mambo
PHP-Nuke
phpWCMS
phpWebSite
Siteframe
TYPO3
Xoops
Zikula

Thanks! ;)

If you have to go CMS

Joomla 1.5 as 1.6 does not have all modules and so

Use 1.5 and get artisteer for the template very easy then

Yeah...for now...as soon as this busy phase dies down...I can get things running as I want!

Thank you, will take a look!

Anyone else have some suggestions too? :D

+1 on wordpress (even if it is not one of the "installed" ones)

not OT but what is the best CMS for a blog, i assume wordpress?

i have my own domain and a good-enough hosting option (for a blog at least)

Ok...so been playing with Wordpress (to all's recommendation)....found some nice themes that can be used as a business. Will see which works best. Thanks for the help!! :D

I have used Most of them, and now run all my sites on wordpress and none of them have any signs of a blog anywhere.

@CrazyFig if you do go with wordpress you should also get the http://akismet.com/ plugin from the beginning otherwise you will be flooded with spam after a while.

Yeah, seen how they get configured, very nice so far ;)

Oh thanks for this, I will make sure its enabled..if not there, I will install it!! ;)

Ok firstly what will you site need? Will it need a forum or maybe a place to sell your products.

Once you know what you want to do find a cms the works best for that task. Fair enough joomla and wordpress etc can be modified to have forums, galleries and what ever else you need. This however is a lot more work and will be easier to rather find a CMS that already includes what you need.

If I had to pick a CMS thought I would choose wordpress. There is so many blogs dedicated to how to modify wordpress so finding support for problems is a breeze. They have a large selection of plugins and free themes.

I only use wordpress for my personal projects.

Take a look at my site http://pixelbright.co.za/tag/wordpress/ for a few examples of sites powered by wordpress.

sorry offtopic but EthanEllis pixelbrights header is out of place from the background image. Ive wanted to say something for a while but hought it might be my side but i tested on FF and IE at work and home

@Murdoc thanks for the heads up. Could you perhaps send me a screenshot? It seems fine on my side. I mostly use chrome though hardly check for other browsers which I really should.
