Which CMS system to use?

We've been using Joomla since it went public on thousands of client's websites with great success. Before that we used Mambo. It might have a slight steeper learning curve than others but it's very powerful and there are thousands, if not millions, templates & plugincs available for it on the web.

Wordpress is also very powerful but it's more geared for blogging so you would need to hack the code a bit to take out the commenting options and some other functions if you don't want it on a company website. But I've seen quite a few very well designed Wordpress-driven company websites as well.

Drupal & Typo3 can also do some amazing stuff but their support community is much smaller than Joomla & Wordpress's so if you need help you may wait a bit longer for anyone to respond.

+1 on durpal , there are plugins for so many things.
Depends entirely on what you want to do.

go and check out the component site for joomla, dont think you can beat that. A large portion of which is free.

also +1 for Joomla. Have worked with it for quite a long time now too and there are loads of plugins, themes and modules for free that work brilliantly.

Running a blog on wordpress.com so can't really comment on the stand alone installed wordpress etc. Best is to try a few of the CMS' and see which one YOU prefer ;)

Ok...so been playing with Wordpress (to all's recommendation)....found some nice themes that can be used as a business. Will see which works best. Thanks for the help!! :D

Where did you find these? Thought they mostly contained malicious code?

Not always, and it's easy to check for (right click view source on the rendered html to look for any funnies and then remove them in the theme)

Thanks, will keep that in mind, having a look at frameworks I can build my own theme on too, namely thematic, it looks pretty powerful, got some SEO built in.

I think Wordpress is the best Choice, as it requires little knowledge of HTML and PHP. Then, joomla will be the second option,. Third, Drupal, this requires much savvy in PHP.

I'd stick with Joomla, a lot more scalable and component friendly than Wordpress.
I find it much easier to develop using Joomla as I can break apart everything from the templates to the components and customize exactly how I want it. Not to mention you have a lot more extensions to choose from.
Not to say I hate Wordpress, as I still use this for my smaller sites.
