Which Core2Duo?

The Intel 975x chipset will be replaced by die X38 chipset. First batch of X38 chipset mb's will be released by the end of the month. So wait for that or get a P35 mb instead. I'd go for the E6850 if you don't plan on over clock.

Doesn't seem to bad a board, that :D

Yeah, maybe I should just wait a while for the new chipset... What do you guys think?

My vote is for a Q6600 (dual core is so last week's fashion)

Either wait for a top end X38 board or go for a ASUS striker Extreme board, or if you like your money go for a P5K Delux Wifi

But will the Q6600 perform better than the E6850 at games? Or is that answer dependant on the type of game?

Once again, sorry to bump :o

I'm planning on upgrading within the next 6 months (only motherboard, CPU and RAM). I can currently afford either the E6850 or the Q6600. Which one should I get?

P.S I use my PC mostly for videos, music, gaming and surfing the web.

on current games, you'll probably get a frame or 2 more with the E6850. You can also overclock the E6850 better and get another fps or 2 out of there.

If it was me, i'd still rather go with the quad. quad processer man! how cool is that!

no, you won't. It also depends on the type of games. on a 3D FPS, it really is all in the GFX card, so i don't think you'll see ANY difference.

Basically for now the 6850 will be faster, but not by that much seeing as it is all about the gfx.

Once games and more apps start being coded for dual/quad cores the Q6600 will be a lot better.

I went from a E6600 (2.4Ghz) dual to a Q6600 (2.4Ghz) last month.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE. While the dual gave me good frames, there were times when it struggled on strategy games (supreme commander, Medieval 2 Total War).

Also being able to play games, and not notice that my folding @ home and Antivirus is running in the background is a massive plus.

the marginal difference of the faster dual core's pales in comparison to the multitasking Monster that is the Q6600.

wkj if you buy the e6850 you are going to regret it man

same price you can have 2 or 4 cores not a hard choice man
