I need a credit card and not sure where to get one from. I work for one of the big 4 banks but I'm wondering if I should go for one of the Virgin cards or something (they look cool :D). Suggestions?

You need or want a CC?

If you can get by without one, I'd suggest doing so... esp in the current economic climate.

I got a Virgin credit card and dont have any problems, and it is my second card.

Dont need one but would like one. I have access to my mom's card if I really need to use it to buy stuff online but I primarily use it as a debit card, I've never actually gone into overdraft on the card so yeah...so is there a card out there that looks cool and also offers good benefits?

Virgin offers the best interest rate on credit balances AFAIK. FNB offers E-Bucks on their credit cards (which works out to 1% back in E-bucks).

As suggested above, if you don't really need one, best not to get one.

Get a cheque card - you can use it online same as a credit card

They all look cool and offer good benefits until they need to fsck you over..

Feo : If you don't NEED the card... don't get one... things are still going to get much worse in this country economically.

In that case get a Virgin one, there are no fees and they offer the best positive balance interest rate
Thats exactly what i use mine for, i keep any spare money on the card & earn interest, & use it when needed

If you plan on paying the full balance each month - look into the new Old Mutual one - it gives you 0.5-5% back on each purchase into a Moneymarket account - you get money back for spending :)

If you want to earn interest, get a money market account. The interest earned on a credit card is crap in comparison.

Just for the record, I never spend money I dont have so spare me the lectures. :D The reason I wanna apply for a credit card is that when I make purchases, all the sms and email confirmations go to my mom and I prefer to have a personal record of all my transactions. Im basically looking for a card that gives benefits like miles, points and whatever other stuff is out there.

Feo : its not about the spending money you don't have... its about the way banks will rip you off with a credit card in terms of annual fees etc etc...

I do exactly the same thing - I transfer funds into my credit credit and use that and not their credit amount available.

Then you obviously with the wrong bank:p.

Ok, what if I keep a positive balance all the time, over a one year period how much do you think Ill get charged in fees? TB, sorry if I came across as being an ass...I'm not. Just trying to get a feel for which card that gives the "best value" so to speak.

Here's the link for the FNB Credit Card fees:

Above is new pricing effective 1st July 2009. I'm currently on the electronic transactions option where the monthly fees are discounted, but I don't see this option in the new list of prices:confused:.

On the silver I was paying R12.92 - R4.67 = R8.25 per month.

I am sure you will not divulge it, but I am curious as to which bank you work for. I hope it's not ABSA - my pet hate :)
