I see that there are four cards listed on the Vodacom site:

- Novatel
- Option Colt
- Option Fusion
- Option Quad Lite

Which would be the best to get? Or is the actual card predetermined by the package that one signs up with?

As far as notebooks go, I have a Dell Inspiron 2600 (nothing inspiring about that notebook). Any ideas on whether it's compatible (the 2600 is a 1.2Ghz Celeron)?

Last one, I'm currently with Autopage (they deal with all three cell phone operators). Should I stick with them, or will it be better to go to VodaWorld?

thanks!

It's more a function of stock availability than anything else. Some of these cards are also being discontinued. They all do the same job though.

As far I know, even the cards with WiFi don't all have WiFi, or rather the specific model than comes with WiFi also comes without, so you're not guaranteed to get WiFi.

Some of the older cards, like the Option Colt was only dual band and not tri-band like the new cards, thus they're being discontinued. As long as you don't travel to the US, you won't even notice the lack of the US bands.

Before we get the standard barrage of "Any Windoze Notebook", ( :) )have a look in the FAQ. There is a link to a thread on notebooks problems.

Before you buy a notebook, it might be an option to check with the forum on any issues.

ic, I agree that the new HSDPA cards will lead to a natural death of the current 3G/GPRS cards.

I think the Siemens card was an OEM'ed Option card.

I don't see any mention of the Dell on that thread, it's also good to see that one can use the card with Linux.

I was thinking of signing up for the special where one gets a notebook thrown in as part of the deal (for about R200/month), but the 36 month contract period is a bit long.

vodacom3g - All that's standing between me and signing up, is confirmation on the 3G coverage in the first of the two locations that I've posted (i.e. Faerie Glen-2/Die Werf-2). Could you give me some indication on when you'll be able to find out whether those stations are 3G enabled?
