Which diesel at R200k?

I've been given a car allowance due to the excessive mileage that I do (about 4500KM per month) and so I need to get a car for about R200k. It needs to be a diesel for the lower fuel costs and the following are non-negotiable must-haves:

1.4 litre or higher diesel engine
Cruise control
Blueteeth (I suppose I can fit this aftermarket easily enough, though?)
USB or SD-card slot to play M3P's

Can be new or used, but less than 100k KM. Struggling to find one with these specs. Any suggestions? Or should I ask for a slightly higher allowance (R250k)?

What you did there was rule out all the VW's.

What I would suggest is looking for a decent 2nd hand Polo TDi and fit a radio with USB afterwards.

Or write the MP3s to a CD-RW. There are a few 2010 and 2011 Polo 1.6 TDIs in your price range.
 
Consider a new VW Polo Bluemotion R183500 it's one of SA's most economical cars and it looks quite sporty the aerodynamics tweaks makes it look better than the standard ones.
 
I have a Bluemotion, and although it only has a 1.2 engine, it is more that enough.
You can have an upgraded headunit fitted that will give you Bluetooth connectivity and I think there is a USB option, but I stand to be corrected.
 
Thanks guys, for some reason I didn't even think about replacing head units. That opens up a few more options.

Does it do 130kph easily enough? And how's the overtaking acceleration?
And how's the consumption at 130? :D
 
For 200k you can buy 2x 2007 Polo 1.9 TDi's (highline)... and they do 130 just fine. In fact, I used to own one and it is by far the best power to fuel economy engine I can think off. Thy are fast, lots of torque and you get figures like 6/100km for city driving. Open roads are more like 4.5.

Point is, you can get one of those and have a 100k left for if something goes wrong.
 
Just a different suggestion - Ford Focus TDCI 2.0. It checks all the boxes you mentioned. I also do lot of miles, and I drive one of these, get about 18km per liter on open road and the drive is awesome. With 320nm torque there's no lack of power.

You can get a 2011 model for around R200k if you shop around...

I usually travel at 120 km/h, and then I get around 3,8-4.1l/100km. Overtaking is not an issue.
That being said, it takes some effort getting used to how the car drives.
I don't regret buying it for one second, but each one to his own, I suppose.

At the rate that I burn through petrol, driving "normally" mind you, I'd go through that R100k in four months, tops, if driving an STi/Evo :D

Suddenly seeing a lot of Polo's on the road, looks good.

I just bought one of these - picking it up tomorrow. Whats the average consumption buddy?

I would recommend a secondhand C segment car or maybe an Auris XD - remember it was R254k brand new and factor in a R15k discount from Toyota - R240k, comes with all the bells and whistles.

Polo 1.6 TDi is also good

Brand new Diesel under R200k, not many decent options sadly

The Auris doesn't seem to have cruise control, unfortunately. Was also eyeing it.
 
The toyota corrolla seems like a solid option, i have also heard that it has low running costs, im still deciding on the polo 1.6tdi or the corrolla 2.0d...
