So, Mazda have offered to install auto-locking systems in both my wife's and my car.
Two options: Lock on Start (R1300), or Lock on Drive @ 20km/h (R1900).

Any opinions on which would be the better option of the two?

I would choose Lock on Drive @ 20km/h .

I sometimes forget things in the car i.e parking card, general items etc & it might be annoying to unlock the car after forgetting an item.

You will reach 20km/h fairly quickly hence me liking that option.

Lock on drive is more expensive cause it's more convenient. Seeing as all they are changing is some variable in the code. Pick the better option, which in this case is also the more expensive option.

Really don't mind both systems. I normally lock my doors the moment I walk into the car.
And don't doors only lock the outside door handles? When I close the doors on my fezz it seems to lock the outside door handles

What Mazda and why isn't a standard feature? Even my Polo Vivo has it as standard.

My 2017 CX-5 and my wife's 2019 CX-3. I know, it's really bizarre. Both of our old Polos had this feature as standard. Though I guess Polos are produced locally, where such a feature is a necessity. Less demand for it offshore.
For two cars that really are chock full of features, it's a bit bizarre Mazda left this one out. They only started including it in the new CX-5.
Thankfully they started offering it as an aftermarket extra for those of us with models without it.

Really suprised it is not a feature already, seeing that the vehicles are newish models.

I highly doubt this feature requires any installation.

I'm sure it is just a software change required.

Some vehicles have it disabled and when later models are released it is enabled.

Even the lower specced Corsas have this feature.

I think it is common in German vehicles but hasn't been standardised in Japanese vehicles.

I can't believe this is even an optional feature...

Especially from the Japanese I would just expect it to be there by default.

Surely they're taking the piss? I can swap between the two, or disable it, via the infotainment system.

Mazda everywhere else in the world have it - it’s an option you can select. But when I asked for it, I was told that all Mazdas in SA had that disabled and it couldn’t be enabled at all. For them to charge you for it is a complete and total rip off.
