Which door auto-locking system?

Perhaps it's included by default but coded out in software so that it can be sold as an optional extra in certain countries/regions?

It does look there is some sort of programming that can be done (this from a 2018 CX-3 manual) so maybe dig around (http://www.mazda.ca/en/digital-owners-manual/2018/cx-3/contents/04030109.html)

If that is true and actually works then Mazda should be ashamed of their fleecing to enable the function.

But I would imagine if OP couldn't find this in his own manual then it's likely not there.

Yeh, apparently it comes included in some countries, and not in others...
Pain in the a**.

"Press and hold the lock side of the driver's door-lock switch within 20 seconds of switching the ignition ON, and make sure a beep sound is heard about eight seconds afterwards."

Yeh, don't think that happens with ours...

At least it’s offered as an option by Mazda after market. According to Nissan the Qashqai we have can’t be programmed for it as the option was never catered for so we just have to manually lock when we get in. Got used to it though. Also, Mazda charging over R1k for it is ridiculousnes. Surely it’s will take 5 minutes to code this, meaning just a few rands and labor which they should pick up as a goodwill gesture considering the crime situation in SA.

Agree with everyone else, it's ridiculous the amount they are charging. Maybe phone a few other dealers and see if they charge the same.

Problem I have is that VW electric locks of 2012 era seem to fail every so often resulting in a lock-bounce sound. Good thing I know how to force lock it else I’d be hijacked.

Mazda everywhere else in the world have it - it’s an option you can select. But when I asked for it, I was told that all Mazdas in SA had that disabled and it couldn’t be enabled at all. For them to charge you for it is a complete and total rip off.

It is disabled in the market it is probably needed most. I guess so they can charge for it since people will be willing to pay for their safety.

My Mazda has that configurable as a setting. It also has Un/Lock on Gear change. It locks on change to Drive and can unlock on Park.

As a side the car comes with satnav but they wanted 7.5k for the maps. But recently they started selling the Car Play kit which loads Android Auto. I got that instead. They had to upgrade the firmware and install a 2.1A usb plug but I'm sure there's a side market for these things. I didn't want to void my warranty.

So, Mazda have offered to install auto-locking systems in both my wife's and my car.
Two options: Lock on Start (R1300), or Lock on Drive @ 20km/h (R1900).

Any opinions on which would be the better option of the two?
At that price I am sure it is just software.

I recently bought a Mazda 2, it doesn't have the unlock/lock switch in the driver's door pannel. Doors have to be manually locked using the rolling switch next to the door handle.
I have seen mentions of auto lock in the owners manual but it refers to using the unlock/lock switch, which is not present.

Has anyone had any success in getting a dealership to enable the auto lock for you when driving faster than 20 km/h? I got the car like two days ago and I asked them does it lock itself when I drive away, and they insisted that it does, so I'll even take it back to them and insist that they do it for me.
