I can't believe this is even an optional feature...
Especially from the Japanese I would just expect it to be there by default.

Perhaps it's included by default but coded out in software so that it can be sold as an optional extra in certain countries/regions?

It does look there is some sort of programming that can be done (this from a 2018 CX-3 manual) so maybe dig around (http://www.mazda.ca/en/digital-owners-manual/2018/cx-3/contents/04030109.html)
My 1998 Merc does it at about 15 as wellmy 2007 KIA sportage has it standard lock on drive at 40km/h that is so weird.
Mazda everywhere else in the world have it - it’s an option you can select. But when I asked for it, I was told that all Mazdas in SA had that disabled and it couldn’t be enabled at all. For them to charge you for it is a complete and total rip off.
My Mazda has that configurable as a setting. It also has Un/Lock on Gear change. It locks on change to Drive and can unlock on Park.
Yes.Which Mazda do you have? Latest CX-5?
As a side the car comes with satnav but they wanted 7.5k for the maps. But recently they started selling the Car Play kit which loads Android Auto. I got that instead. They had to upgrade the firmware and install a 2.1A usb plug but I'm sure there's a side market for these things. I didn't want to void my warranty.Yes.
Yes.
At that price I am sure it is just software. So, Mazda have offered to install auto-locking systems in both my wife's and my car.
Two options: Lock on Start (R1300), or Lock on Drive @ 20km/h (R1900).
Any opinions on which would be the better option of the two?
