Which DSL Complete package should I choose?

If you are into gaming, stay very far away from Telkom's Do packages. They promise great speed and reliability, but if it is a shaped account you are going to struggle and be frustrated. They drop your line for 10 to 30 seconds quite frequently during bussiness hours and regularly during evening hours. I'm stuck with a two year(Do3) contract for which I pay approx. R550 and I have to wait untill close to midnight before I can play EVE online without being dropped.

Biggest load if Bull I have heard in quite a while. Those "Do packages" you mention are plain SAIX accounts that most of the major ISPs are reselling. Mweb, Webafrica, Nexus, Axxess etc etc - they all just resell the same 'do'/saix account to you. You will get the exact same 'performance' from all of them. In fact I got an uptime of just over 1 week and 2 days with a plain Do1 account. But they did not 'drop' the line, they never do. Only reason your line drops is cause your line cannot handle the speed (get them to drop the speed a bit), is damaged (get them to replace the line) or something might be wrong with your router or DSLAM or even just a faulty DSLAM port.

Next time find something else to blame.

+1 Id13, right you are. i really enjoyed my TI account. never had any problems and it was great for gaming. i just cannot afford the saix bandwidth anymore, as much as i would love to, so i'm using IS bandwidth from Webafrica. i must say, its not all that bad and webafrica's support is so amazing that it makes it all worth it :)
thanks to MrG for starting this thread, it's always a pleasure to read your informative posts. keep it up mate :)

Im with cybersmart and they are excellent with service delivery and staff sem to take as real interest in you as the customer. Cheap too!

Also with Cybersmart, cheapest option by far, even beats Afrihost.
Only thing is their data centre is in CT which increases local latency slightly as I'm based in JHB (and gaming servers are all in JHB!)

Also with cybersmart been with them for 3 years now ...always good service from tech support and the finance/admin ladies ...cheapest package around ...now why would i move away?? ....only problem is they dont have uncapped ...otherwise extremely happy with them

UNCAPPED @ afrihost = R197

I switched to my new ISP about 6 months back and find there service phenomenal. They are providing me with a uncapped business ADSL connection which flies. I have a 4Meg DSL running at about 3.5meg 90% of the time and I’m only paying R2500 per month including Router. Their service delivery is flippin good too.

MODS - please unsticky this thread if it is not being updated anymore.

I have always gone with Openweb , they are the best !!! On price and service , i just cant afford uncapped :-( even if it is cheap . Lost my job and had to take one with a very low pay :-(

also on my isp side i have a 4meg uncapped services but on telkom i have a 3meg connection but telkom says on there system im paying for a 4meg line should i drop it to 3meg on telkom side and will it make my downloads more stable . they seem to be jumping from 10kb/s - 280kb/s they are all over the place??

For those interested, I am on Cybersmart UP TO 10 meg with NightRider. This gives me a 10 meg line (my speedtest reports 8.44 down) which is UNshaped, but with a 15GB CAP -- BUT -- free downloading between 2 am to 5 am every night. Depending what I am downloading, I often get my full 1 MB/s. At that rate I can pull over 11GB in my allotted night's window! Oh, and the all inclusive price is R799.

This thread is very old... Even no love for Telkom's bandwidth and speed upgrades, and their increased voice line rental. If this thread is not being updated, can we please unsticky it?

take a look at this summary... covers most offers
