Hi guys. I've got two pc's both have a Samsung Writemaster DVD writer.

Problem is, on my main pc the writer failed to open for the last year. I used a program and usually I would just eject it a couple of times until it worked.

Yesterday, I wanted to write a few cd's and Nero just failed the disc, messing it up.

I'm pretty sure it's not my pc itself, since I tried other burning software, which did the same. The writer is totally worthless to me as far as I'm concerned.

Which DVD writer, other than Samsung would you recommend? I've had 3 of these Samsung's in different pc's and they all have the tray opening problem.

Thanks
tera

Well I can tell you DON'T get a Lite-on writer, they sound like jumbo jets.

Plextor is expensive high-end stuff so that also gets a no from me.

Sony doesn't have a good rep with DVD writers so another no there.

That leaves LG.

i'd recommend High Scribe DVD - multRecorder... been using it since
7th March this year until now and never got a problem.

I actually had a few stupid problems like that of yours ,with samsung and LG... :D

Thanks feo ;)

What is a High Scribe DVD? I can't find it online

SAMSUNG SH-203B !! Check out the reviews.

Thanks feo ;)

Mm i don't know i'll have to look for it but I know you can buy it from Rectron.. JHB. Doesn't have a brand name on it. it only say's HighScribe...

Btw it runs ferly quite aswell. When writing ofcourse...

No thanks Nokkie ;) I'll check out the LG drives. I've had an ASUS before and I gave it to my dad, it was a bit slow for me.

Is it recommendable to get an USB writer and an USB DVD Rom?

So that you can use the DVD Rom to read your DVD's, and when you want to write a CD, you plug in the writer?

Should save wear and tear on the writer.

I just don't have the money to do that uncle Libs. DVD writers are priced fairly, starting at about R250-R400, so I'd rather buy a new one, should it die ;)

Just a thought.

Had a LG which died on /me.

Kicked it around a bit as thanks, and chucked it away.

Gotta find a new one, but I'm thinking of going the USB route as my laptop's CDRom is starting to exhibit nonsensical behaviour... so I will be able to use it on my desktop as well as my laptop.

i've got 2 samsung writemaster dvd-writers and i have had absolutely no problems with it. it's so quiet and runs smoothly.

I can safely say mercurial, without the slightest hint of lying, that 3 of the Samsung Writemasters, all the same model more or less, non lightscribe have had the problem which the "tray" fails to open.

The one in my main pc jitters my entire box as well, which I hate ;)
