Toying with the idea of getting one, but there are so many of them.

Alta? Charge 2? Blaze?

I have the Blaze. It's a bit bulky for my thin lady arms, but I love the functionality. I would've loved having a built-in gps, but the Surge looked ridiculous on my arm.

I love the Heart Rate monitor, altimeter and sleep tracking. I use the 'relax' feature quite a bit, but I've only used the Fitstar functionality a hand-full of times.

My friend has the Charge HR. It's low profile, works well. Accurate heart rate. Battery lasts at least 5 days.

I saw people moaning about Fitbit yesterday in the discovery vitality threat iirc.

Had the Fitbit Charge HR (now defunct - replaced by the Fitbit Charge 2). When it worked it was very good, however I have had two replacement bands shipped in 18 months. First was 6 months after purchase so got a new unit from Sportsman's Wharehouse. 2nd was a few weeks back, out of the year warranty but Fitbit International surprised me by shipping a new band from overseas. As I said, no complaints when working and the Charge 2 looks a lot better, but reliability issues from my experience(and people I know) mean I I am hesitant to recommend them. On that note all the issues I know where from people with the Charge HR which isn't sold anymore so they might have sorted their reliability out.

What advantages do these fitbits have over say the R399 B-Fit Move 2, or even the R299 first gen B-Fit Move?

Usually Bluetooth syncing and heart rate monitoring

Which the B-Fits do.
Wow. That is a good bit of kit for the price. I checked in my discovery app list to see if it is possible to link it for purposes of earning vitality points. However, I don't see it in the list. (Just for reference, the only option missing from the screenshot is 'Withings')

I will definitely look at potential workarounds though.

I don't have vitality, so I'm not familiar with the whole process, but I do have it synced with Apple's Health app which I believe is accepted by Discovery? So there might be another workaround in the Android world?

Perhaps to S-Health. That makes this a viable option for me. Thank you sir.

The way I see it... at R299, or even R399, it's a good way to test the waters before you drop R2k on a Fitbit. I like knowing how far I walk, and the notifications are a blessing, but I'm not going to spend much more than that unless I go for full blown smartwatch.

I've had the Samsung Gear Fit for over 2 years with no issues. The WhatsApp notifications are great, as well as controlling my Music app. All of the themes, backgrounds, cameras etc. all lose their novelty over time.

The app is a big plus. Also, as someone mentioned, fitbit are pretty good at replacing stuff, even if out of warranty. Someone here at work got an entirely new watch after hers went bust out of warranty. Was a later model too.

And I would say my blaze has a wee bit more functionality than a R400 device.

Had several problems with the Charge HR, I cannot recommend it at all. First it stopped syncing, replaced under warranty. Replacement unit's rubber coating started bubbling up shortly after warranty ended. Hear rate was not at all accurate during excercise (though this is highly dependant on the individual and more a criticism on optical sensors rather than fitbit specifically.)

I have the fitbit Blaze, this was before the charge 2 came out.
Reason for getting it;
All the usual stuff, HR Monitor, steps, stairs, GPS tracking (with phone) workouts, runs and cycles.
All the other models were part of the band, the Blaze face pops out, I liked that I could get after market bands.
The amount of info it displays and the changeable faces
The app itself has loads of info, you can log your food (better in US or UK, you can just scan the food items)
Sleep tracking, etc.
I liked the colour screen, and the amount of info it shows on the home screen (currently HR, steps, time and date)

If you're just looking for a HR monitor for workouts, you can try the cheaper alternatives though

At R400 you can just replace it yourself. Going to get me the B-fit move 2 since MIA never bothered to import the Mi band 2.

Sure. But you get what you pay for sometimes. If basic is what you are looking for, then I'm sure it will be fine.

What I like about the blaze is that it is a combo of fitness band and smartwatch. Looks quite good as well - got quite a few compliments on it. And that was with the basic black rubber strap, and not the stainless steel one which I have yet to change to.

Seeing as it's almost 12 times as expensive as my R299 B-Fit I would expect a lot more functionality. There's an app for the watch and it ties in nicely with Apple Health which is nice, but I'm not really interested in most of what it offers.

The nice thing about the cheap ones, and there are plenty of others besides the B-Fit, is if you decide you don't really want a fitness watch then you haven't lost much.

Agreed. Which is also one of the secrets of the Fitbit Blaze. If you pudgy like me, then you don't feel to bad with something on your wrist that looks like a smartwatch :)

Ended up getting an Alta Special edition on Amazon prime day for 75 gbp = 1,3k zar

Would have preferred the non-special one since gold isn't my colour, but the standard one was more expensive. :crylaugh:

I'm quite a cautious buyer so 9 out of 10 times I end up annoyed since it's the right thing but I was just a bit too frugal. The other thing is that for something I'm wearing 24/7 I really don't care about the price difference.

Nice will definitely use that.
