Thanks guys, I'll download the brochures.

Annoying how medical aid has changed since my Dad died of lung cancer 10 years ago. All accounts were submitted to Discovery and paid by them.

I'm changing from Zestlife to Sirago. Plainly, they are all limited to R150000 payout, and zestlife is the most expensive, in addition, I've changed to a network medical plan and Sirago has better cover for out of DSP usage.

Bump, slightly different question:
I have discovery medical aid but no gap cover and we are now pregnant. I take it this is a precondition and will not be covered should we take out gap cover today?

Hi Siegmund, still looking at Zestlife but haven't signed the docs yet.

What were your thoughts on Kaelo Xelus Fusion? It looks quite extensive although a premium of R 385 is quite steep. Apparently, however, one can share the premium with a 'significant other' at no additional cost even if they are not on the same medical aid plan. I don't know how they regulate it and haven't received confirmation of it in writing but it would make it more affordable - and great value relative to other options.

Congratulations Brawler!

Unfortunately, from what I have read, as you do not currently have gap cover, a condition-specific waiting period will most likely apply. These are usually 12 months, I don't know if it is different for pregnancies. Most application forms will ask you to declare if you are pregnant - or even if you are trying to be. I don't know, however, if your child will be automatically covered after the birth regardless of the waiting period, or if the balance of days is transferred to the child.

Apologies, their policy document states that the significant other must actually be a dependent on the same medical aid. Clearly the consultant I spoke to understands his products thoroughly.

Brawler, have you had any luck with the gap cover? I am currently in the exact same situation...
