Which GPU under R3k

So looking for a new Graphics card.

Currently have the Radeon 6870, its fine for most of what I play but really keen on playing the Witcher and GTA 5.

So What is good value for under R3k ?

I don't mind going a little over but don't play that many games at the moment, so don't want to splurge too much.

PowerColor or HIS RX 470 4GB is what you get for R3k. Actually the 480 4GB was not much more than the 470 from what I recal so look at that as well.

No the RX 470 is a much better GPU performance wise.

Both unfortunately sold out but the Gigabyte and MSI can be had for R3300.

or wait for stock of the HIS RX 470 and save R400.

If it's not critical to buy right now, hang on till pricing for the Polaris refresh come out...should be sometime this week.

The prices of existing cards (if in stock) may come down.

According to Leetpro the PC has better shroud & fans, the HIS is basically a rebranded XFX card with it's own shroud & fans from what I gather.

I'll agree with above, the 470 is great value if you can get one for around 3k.

I don't see the HIS cards listed on wootware any more, those that are out of stock were removed from the site unlike the powercolor ones.

I have a nasty suspicion that the new stock is gonna come in at a higher price. In SA you also don't see prices of old stock dipping when something new comes out.

You might be right...that special Wootware ran on the RX480 for R3300 might have been to burn off stock. I see the 4Gb and 8Gb Powercolor cards are out of stock now.

These cards have the best coolers for the 470/480

Purplefox is new I think and it's someone from over at Carbonite.
