Which handgun do you recommend for EDC?

Not too sure about that but the mag release is not a part of the fixed frame and does not carry a serial number..

From what I have been reading DSS is not dependant on which section you are licensed for. So even a Sec 13 can have a DSS.
Will try and find the screenshot and post here.

There's a minefield of opinions around that. 2 actual written legal opinions by advocates on each side of the argument. So far it's untested in court.

The act wording is clear, (it says you can get as many rounds as you want once you have DSS) but some argue that intention matter, and that was not the intention of the act.

Until tested in court, the wording of the law takes precedence. I have dss status, but my handgun is s15. If a shop doesn't want to sell more than 200 rounds, I take my business to a shop that will.

That being said, reloading solves this issue to a large extent.

Yeah this is how it works in real world.

I have DSS Status but I've been told that they won't even sell me the ammo without a Section 16 licence.
 
Here's the one opinion: (you can't have more than 200 unless you hold a section 16):


And the opinion that says you can get as many as you want, independent of license section:


Simple answer: Just buy 200 rounds every now and then, and build your stash. And keep your DSS status and that 2nd legal opinion handy for any legal hassles .

Yeah, I'm just happy they brought the 43X out with a black slide option. I've asked a lot of people who say they manage to carry the Glock 19 without a problem. Personally I just prefer that bit of extra weight, and the longer barrel is better for velocity and accuracy (longer sight radius), so that's what I'm aiming to get. With an S16 licence I can always go back to a 43X if its too u comfortable to EDC for me, so that gives me a little peace of mind.

Can confirm, some stores will sell you more than 200 others won't.

Agreed on what was said as well, take your business elsewhere or give reloading a try or buy every now and then :)

I'm ready to plead ignorance in court.

Pleading ignorance isn't a defence. It's like saying "oh gee whiz, I didn't know the speed limit was 120km/h when I was doing 240km/h".

Not sure what the penalty for breaking the FCA is, but I'm sure they don't take kindly to illegal arms caches (which is how the SAPS would classify anything over 200 bullets if they feel you're not entitled to it). Is the risk worth it? Just get an S16 instead surely.

Agreed,

But what you are pleading ignorance here to is the 'intention' of the act. And there's no way of guessing what they intended when they wrote the badly worded section, all you have is what they actually wrote, and that says with DSS you are good to go.

The written legal opinion by an advocate can also help you.

But personally I don't want to be the one to try it in court, even a simple little court case can clean out the average person, leaving you without money for more guns and ammo.

I've been carrying my S15 Glock 19 since December 2015,just about every day. I've been stopped by cops, and they have never had an issue.

As with the DSS debate, the intention might have been something else, but as it stands, the wording of the F A allows you to use any section firearm for any lawful purpose. Self defense is still a lawful purpose. I've also heard of sport shooters using their firearms in self defence, and they did not end up in trouble.

Yes, Im 100% in agreement with you, but it follows the same debate as the wording of the act and pleading ignorance. Or thats what I was trying to get to.
 
Never understood why people need so maby rounds.

Store what your license allows. When you go shoot at the range. Buy as you need?

Reloading. Sometimes when I go to the range 2 days in a row I dont want to really reload in between the 2 days. I sometimes, depending what Im training for, go through about 350 rounds. Its not to start a small war but I also want enough rounds for self defense for all of my weapons, and I have a lot.
