Which handgun do you recommend for EDC?

When I fetched my Gen 4 I asked how much range rounds were and I was quoted just under R400 for 50. Factory, not reloads.

I was lucky that I bought 1000 in November at R265/50.

So that's one reason.

Another is that the ranges I use aren't attached to gun shops. So I don't have to go buy every time I want to visit the range.

While I'm 100% sure it's legally ok, even the most cautious legal opinions say it's fine. I'm not so sure the proverbial 2am roadblock cop knows that. So my carry gun is S13, the rest are all S16

This. The closest gun shop is 1h30 drive from me, and the clay shooting range I frequent is 30 minutes in the opposite direction. 150 rounds is about an average morning out. So I buy 1000 at a time.

Does anyone here know of a local supplier/importer for Holosun red dots?

I've just seen the new Holosun SCS which is launching in May 2022, and everyone online is raving about how small and clever it is: https://www.holosun.com/index/product/detail/id/209.html

It's created directly for the Glock MOS system so there's no need for a mounting plate; it requires no external battery (it has a solar-recharged internal one); and multiple sensors for automatic brightness adjustment (which supposedly work better than older systems). Oh and it's low enough that you can use the built-in iron sights and don't need suppressor-height iron sights.

Seems like a no-brainer to save for that if I can get a Glock 19 MOS here. But where would I start in terms of buying/importing one with any form of local support?

That 508t-x2 is still the previous-gen, so it requires an adaptor plate and needs a battery. Is it one you have an EDC? How do you feel about it?

The interesting thing for me is that the green dots are better than the red dots, because they're brighter and require less power draw. They're also better for people with astigmatism, which I have. And don't you know it, the Holosun SCS is only available in green dots.

Anybody have an opinion on it? I'm giving it a lot of thought, and the option to keep my focus on my target is really appealing for me. If I'm not experienced on the front-sight focus of iron sights, then it'll be better for me to learn a dot sight.
 
I had that green dot version. And with astigmatism it was pretty much unusable. Yet to try a red one

Waiting for lic approval so i can go fetch my glock17 mos

Looks very nice.

I don't get the obsession with back up sights if you use a dot though. The good ones are properly reliable, and the sights just get in the way. They literally obscure your view exactly where the dot sits.

Should I ever get mine milled for a dot, I'll mill the dovetail right off and mount the dot low and back.

If you have astigmatism you better try before you buy, odds are you won't be able to use it.
 
@foxhound: the scs should be in country in about 6 weeks time. In terms of license you might be surprised. Guys have been getting in 3 to 4 months. If you need help on the holosun drop me a msg
