In fact, ATA is very alive, becasue SATA is ATA. PATA is what is dead.
Not just yet - there are still too few SATA opticals on the market to really kill PATA.
I just hope - when PATA really does kick the bucket - that the mobo manfuacturers will use the (physical) space the PATA connectors use to whack a bunch of SATAs in there. 6 SATAs doesn't cut it, IMO. 14 is more like it.
