There are lots of info on the net but just one of the things I read were on here - http://www.hifivision.com/media-streaming-players/14028-nice-article-chipsets.html
Ah good info. Though it doesn't really seem like the guy provides info in terms of which is better. I mean he says output quality is better on the Sigma but doesn't provide tests or any type of benchmark he used? Also lacks Real Media support (on the Sigma). To me it looks like the Sigma is great if you plan on viewing DVDs/Blu-ray and need PVR functionality. Popcorn hour uses the Sigma though and people say it is a really good player. After all it isn't all about hardware.
Also doesn't mention details around the newest RealTek chipset (1085), although I've found some info on Tomshardware about that:
Tomshardware said:The 500 MHz RTD1185 will replace the RTD1283 in media players with encoding functionality (along with digital tuners). The RTD1073 will be replaced by a 500 MHz RTD1085, which internally supports gigabit Ethernet, SATA, and PCIe. Realtek also has a new value-oriented controller called RTD1055, without network support.
Realtek talks about offering the most complete audio/video format support with its new chipsets, including all popular HD codecs. We'll need to wait for the next generation high-def media players to emerge toward the end of 2010. Hopefully, they'll support the latest HD audio formats (Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio), which are not supported by the RTD1073/RTD1283)
Btw. I think I made an error: The Mede8er and AC Ryan probably use the 1073DD+ but I'm not certain now.
