Seagate. (Recent release of 7200 rpm drives had some problems so google for the problematic drives' revision number, its what I did before I bought my external)
Weatern digital.
Maxtor. (place the above 2 before this brand)

Rest are **** imo.

Samsung ---> know alot of failed drives.

Maybe you should remove Intel as they don't make HDDs, only SSDs. And perhaps change 'Other' to 'Toshiba' as they are the only other manufacturer make HDDs, so that it's a more accurate poll.

I used to like Hitachi (cue Deathstar jokes), but after the takeover I'd say the only brand left that I really trust is Toshiba.

Seagate. They do more R&D and testing than all the others (if not all the others combined). For externals I'm not picky though...whatever is cheapest...must be a name I've heard of though.

I said "other" as you did not give me the option of saying "all"

I've been around long enough when a 10MB drive was a beast and I had a 20MB. All brands are good and all brands are bad - it just depends on when you buy. I've learn't never to be emotionally loyal towards a brand. If latest reviews say your favourite brand sucks, then accept it sucks and buy what they recommend.

I've currently got the following in 4 PCs:
Samsung - SATA 250GB, 6yrs old
Hitachi - IDE, 80GB, 8yrs old (used daily)
Seagate - IDE, 80GB, 5yrs old (used daily)
Maxtor - IDE, 40GB, 6yrs old
