Which is more important 2/3 majority or Zuma

I thought of this scenario as I went to sleep last night. What if the only way for the ANC only way to get 2/3 majority was with a coalition the EFF. What if Malema's only demand is that Zuma must step down the ANC's presidential candidate ie step down as president
 
Since I did vote and I have the same question - can someone answer it? :)
 
It makes no difference - Mantashe and the rest of the ANC structures are just as corrupt. The number 2 is just more brazen/stupid.

Important to who? As far as I'm concerned Zuma's second term would be a lot less painful knowing it was his last.

Well, one of the biggest reason Zuma wants 2/3 is to stay president forever, so stepping down defeats the purpose. I do however think they will be able to con Malemmer into a coalition with Zuma still conductor of the gravy train.

I was under the impression that according to the constitution one can only be president for two consecutive terms?

Would the rule still apply to a coalition? I think it only applies to a single party and the EFF would have to be disbanded which might be difficult as one of their biggest push points in the elections has been the corruption of Zuma and the ANC.

Anyone got the relevant Act\portion at hand?

It takes a 2/3rds majority to change the constitution… ;)

The 2/3rds refers to 2/3rds of the National Assembly, irrespective of how it gets constituted.

Yep, they don't even have to merge to work together.
I still think EFF is just a dragnet for ANC strays.
 
Technically you can be the head of your party and not be the president of the country. Thabo Mbeki tried it when he realised Zuma had the popular vote going for him and he would win at Mangaung. So he could step down as the president of the country and just continue to rule the country from Luthuli House in everything except in name.

Corruption doesn't start or stop with one person though so my choice would be no one party gets that 2/3 majority to change the constitution and stop little things like the rule of law or basic human rights.

If you had not "bugged in" yesterday and voted for any party other than those two, you could have slept a bit more peacefully last night.
 
I believe a 2/3 majority would only cause division in the ruling party as you must not forget that the ANC is made of many organisations with each its own agenda.

its still has no stopped them, their arrogance is blatant and do you think the organisations within is going to give up their seat on the gravy train? look at what they did to Malema recently when he decided that he wanted to try to be captain of the gravy boat?
They may all have their own little agenda's but they are benefiting by flying under the ANC banner.

Does it really make a difference, the person that wants 2/3 majority wants not for the party and to better the country he wants it for himself and further and enrich his own life. The party that wants the 2/3 also only want it to allow the rest of them to do as they please (which happens anyway). He was placed there by the party do you really think they will take him out of power? voters have been fed the crud of he is not the ANC and they believe that when the ANC wins he is going to step down? welcome to another term of the poor getting poorer, only his rich cronies have benefited and the poor have gotten poorer.
